A Sydney Siege Survivor Has Named Her Baby Daughter After Her Friend Who Was Killed In The Ordeal

"Katrina Dawson was the most wonderful person I have ever met."

Sydney siege survivor Julie Taylor has named her baby girl after her best friend Katrina Dawson, who died as police stormed the Lindt Cafe in December.

Julie Taylor, who was 19 weeks pregnant during the siege, gave birth two weeks ago and named her newborn daughter Emily Katrina, 7 News reports. The two worked together at law firm Eight Selbourne Chambers, near the Lindt Cafe.

"Katrina Dawson was the most wonderful person I have ever met. She was my closest friend, a role model and confidant. Her bravery and strength was, and continues to be, a comfort and inspiration for me," said Ms Taylor a short time after the siege.

Julie Taylor (second from left) escaped the Lindt Cafe just before the police raid, but Katrina Dawson was killed by fragments from police bullets as they stormed the building.

Ms Taylor read a poem at the memorial service for her friend Katrina. The 38-year-old barrister and mother of three. She was remembered as an "extraordinary" woman with a "wicked sense of humour."

All survivors are expected to give evidence to the inquest into the Sydney siege, which resumed this morning.
