If you really want a job, it is important that you make yourself stick out from the other interviewees. Organizational behaviorist Dr. Katharine Hansen suggests projecting confidence and showing enthusiasm to make yourself memorable to the employer. Show the employer your personality. Let them know that you really want this job.

2. Don't Dress Like Regina George

Appropriate attire can make or break an interview. Dr. Hansen says to "dress more conservatively than you normally would." It is important that you don't wear clothes that are too revealing. Dress professionally and wear clothes that are appropriate for the job you are interviewing for.

3. Don't Talk Negatively About Yourself

During an interview, the interviewer wants to hear about your strengths and skills that would make you fit for the job, so don't talk about things that might make you look bad. Talking negatively about yourself may lead the interviewer to think that you lack self-confidence and think negatively about you.

4. Don't Talk About Things That Are Irrelevant To The Job

In an interview, you want to highlight skills and experiences that relate to the job that you are interviewing for. Although, you may have a fifth sense, it is not going to be helpful to a job unless you are interviewing to be a psychic. Irrelevant topics distract from the skills you have that the interviewer is interested in hearing about.

5. Don't Offend The Interviewer

Be careful with what you say because you don't want to say anything in the interview that might be taken offensively by the interviewer. The saying think before you speak definitely applies in interview situations. Only talk about neutral topics where there is no chance of differing opinions. Making a good first impression definitely doesn't including name calling.

6. Don't Freak Out

Interviews can be stressful and intimidating, but whatever you do, don't freak out. It is completely normal to be nervous during an interview. Dr. Hansen says "No matter how shaky you may feel inside, try your best to show a confident attitude." Just remember to breathe and be confident that you are going to do great.

7. Don't Follow Up Too Much

It is definitely important to follow up after the interview is over. Dr. Hansen says "Don’t make a pest of yourself, but do follow up." A thank you note is appropriate and so is a call if you have not heard from the employer about the job. It's important to let the employer know that you are appreciative of their time and look forward to hearing from them, but don't call or stop by everyday. Give them some time.
