There Was A Real Life Pokémon Musical And Somehow We All Missed It

More importantly, we missed an opportunity to see Team Rocket's perfectly on point hip action.

So apparently Pokémon Live!, a full-length musical based on the Pokémon anime series, briefly toured the U.S. in the early 2000s.

The full-length show followed Ash, Misty, and Brock as they competed for the Diamond badge, and it looks like it would’ve been TOTALLY AWESOME to see live.

All 150 Pokémon managed to make a cameo in the musical, along with some of our other favorite characters like…

… the ever fabulous TEAM ROCKET!

Team Rocket even performed what appears to be a "Rhythm Nation" crossover dance sequence under the watchful eyes of Giovanni.

According to The Making of Pokémon Live!, the show utilized confetti, strobe lights, fog machines, smoke machines, and… pyrotechnics?

The musical seemed to have everything, from heartfelt emotion...

    …to coy flirtations…

    …to subtle foreshadowing…

    …to more heartfelt emotion…

... to OH MY GOD, JAMES, THOSE HIPS!

Seriously, it’s hard to imagine a musical getting much better than this. It even received a rave review from this kid.

And this woman gave the highest level of praise that any musical could hope to be afforded.

99% percent of today's problems could be blamed on this decade's lack of video game-to-anime-to-musical masterpieces.

But regardless, bless the early 2000s for granting us this musical gem, if only for a short time.
