It would be nice for Buzzfeed to go the extra step by placing the entire verse or context this was taken from. Yes, this is just half of one verse. Here’s a translation of the entire verse:
Sahih International: We will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve for what they have associated with Allah of which He had not sent down [any] authority. And their refuge will be the Fire, and wretched is the residence of the wrongdoers.
So in this verse it talks about striking fear into the hearts of nonbelievers who make false claims in the name of God (Allah) by casting them to Hell (Fire). Ironically, Pamela Gellar is one of those “nonbelievers who made false statement in the name of God.” By juxtaposing have the verse with the above image she is implying that Muslims have a spiritual or divine duty to kill “nonbelievers”. An overwhelming vast majority of the people who see the ad won’t bother to check its validity or context just like buzzfeed and some of the commenters obviously failed to do so.

There is a problem with taking half of a verse from the Quran. Here’s the entire translated verse: Sahih International: We will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve for what they have associated with Allah of which He had not sent down [any] authority. And their refuge will be the Fire, and wretched is the residence of the wrongdoers.
It’s talking about terror being struck down on those who claims falsehoods in the name of Allah (God) by send them to hell (fire). Whether u agree with the concept of this verse or the religion itself is one thing but by taking half the verse and juxtaposing it next to the twin towers u create the false idea that Muslims are required “to strike fear unto the unbelievers” or that they have a “divine duty to kill unbelievers.” Which is totally not the case. Pamela Gellar is a racist plain and simple and she’s a smart one too. She knows that 95% of those who see this wont bother to check its validity or context.
