9 Movies That Will Make You Want To Visit Scotland

Sure, Scotland might be known for bagpipes, kilts, and haggis, but it also has some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world. Aye, I think it's aboot time for a wee holiday!

1. Braveheart (1995)

Even if you're not Scottish, I'm sure many of us felt a sense of pride for the country after watching this film (and maybe some wanderlust, too?). Take a trip to the Scottish Highlands to see Fort William, Glencoe, and Glen Nevis, and don't forget Stirling Castle!

2. Harry Potter films (2001-2011)

Fort William and Glencoe were used in many outdoor scenes in various Harry Potter movies, including shots of the Hogwarts Express train traveling along the countryside in Glenfinnan Viaduct, and the bridge shown in Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban opposite Loch Shiel near Fort William. Scenes filmed in Edinburgh, including the view from Arthur's Seat and the Royal Mile, will make you swoon for romance and an adventure in Scotland! Starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess.

"If you had the chance to change your fate, would you?" Pixar did a fabulous job capturing the beauty of the Scottish Highlands in this animated flick, and if those glorious accents don't make you want to hop on a plane and fly to Scotland then I don't know what will.

5. Skyfall (2012)

Daniel Craig and Dame Judi Dench overlooking Glen Etive pretty much stole the show, at least location wise. Fun fact: the movie's Scotland scenes led CNN Travel to name Scotland as Top Travel Destination of 2013.

6. Trainspotting (1996)

This movie doesn't exactly paint a very pretty picture of Scotland, but I still wanted to include it on this list. Let me explain: The film takes place in Leith, a district of Edinburgh, that was economically deprived both in the movie in in real life during the 1980s. However, it has since become a vibrant community with many restaurants, pubs, shops, and parks. You really can't beat its location on the shoreline of the Firth of Forth!

7. Made of Honor (2008)

Disregard the plot of this movie, because it's pretty terrible (sorry, kind of). But it takes place at Eilean Donan castle in the Highlands which is BEAUTIFUL!
