From common misconceptions to the way they're sometimes perpetuated in the media, medical emergency myths run rampant through our society, which can lead to dangerous real-life scenarios.

Whether it's hesitation to do CPR on a collapsed stranger or questioning if Benadryl can stop a severe allergic reaction, the confusion of what to do and when to do it during a medical emergency can be life-threatening. These situations can often turn serious when people aren't sure if the scene they remember from a movie or the factoid they came across online is actually accurate.

As it turns out, sometimes those scenes from TV and movies ARE accurate, such as the episode of The Office where the staff learns CPR. But in many other cases, the common understandings people carry of what to do in a medical emergency are inaccurately informed, either from word of mouth or pop culture in varying ways.

Knowing the difference could save a life!

So let's dive in and see if you know the right thing to do in this grouping of some common medical emergency tactics. These were gathered by longtime paramedic and EMS instructor Eric Jaeger, out of Exeter, New Hampshire. With more than a decade of experience under his belt, he knows just how dangerous these medical myths can be, and his aim is to help educate people on the truths that could save lives.
