8 Thanksgiving Day Activities We Are Not Thankful For

Although Thanksgiving is filled with stuffing your face in food and enjoying some quality family time, here are some activities we are all NOT looking forward to this Thanksgiving

1. Traveling

Trapped in a car for hours with your family always ends up being an interesting time... Now add the tension that was just developed at home through the arguments of what to wear, what time to leave, and what NOT to say to your relatives you haven’t seen since last year… you are in for an intriguing car ride. Hopefully the drive isn’t very far and the car ride proves to not be too rough… but being crammed in the back seat with food by your side in hopes to keep it from getting ruined while your siblings are constantly complaining about how long the ride is accompanied by everyone arguing about how we left too late leaves for a crammed and uneasy journey...

2. Seeing distant relatives

Your mom has prepped you for all the questions they are going to ask and how they have been throughout this past year. You only see them once a year and engaging in small talk seems to be key for these types of encounters along with many awkward hugs... Most likely the conversation will end up with “look how big you’ve gotten!” or “what grade are you in now?” with the response of “no way! You've grown up so much! How time flies!”. Although some of these conversations include your relatives hyping you up and grandma telling everyone how nice you look and what a nice young man/woman you have become, these conversations get redundant and can get annoying quick.

3. Thanksgiving Day Parade

Your parents say its tradition but you don’t understand what all the craze is about… It might be cool if you were actually seeing it in person, but you are not… Watching it on the TV doesn’t provide the same enthusiasm and entertainment it seems to have in New York City. So unless you are in the big apple to see it… prepare for a boring morning Thanksgiving Day…

4. Food coma

As tremendous as the food will be on Thanksgiving Day, the minutes and hours after show the holiday low for you… You will feel like you are about to explode and don’t comprehend how you ate so much. You realize you don’t even like pumpkin pie but found yourself diving into piece after piece trying to win Thanksgiving. You made it a challenge at the beginning of the day and you know to stand by this… but, this coma will leave you laying on the couch like a zombie trying to avoid all conversation with family members… In the end, the coma proves to be worth it due to the amount of delicious foods you just consumed.

5. Dressing up

Nothing is worse than stuffing your face with absurd amounts of food just to crave jumping into sweatpants and a hoodie to lay around on the couch to recover before desert comes out and being stuck in dress clothes… Thanksgiving is a challenge. It’s about eating every kind of food that is presented and an extraordinary amount of it. This gets interrupted when you worry about looking proper and focusing on not having any food stains on your shirt. This should be the last of your concerns… This day for the ultimate feast is best competed in loose fitting, comfortable clothes to leave space for the eventual “food baby” to come.

6. The leftover pecan pie

We all have that one relative who insists on getting a pecan pie because they say it is their desert of choice. While everyone else is diving in on apple pie and pumpkin pie, that one person is eating one slice and claiming they are full... You are left with a bunch of leftover pieces of pecan pie that no one else will eat, leaving your parents to claim the pie to take home… while you know it will never be eaten by anyone in your house...

7. The awkward political conversations

It always seems like everything is going smoothly on Thanksgiving Day until someone brings up politics… It always seems that Uncle Phil and Aunt Lauren have extremely conflicting opinions on just about everything… This is the awkward part where someone chips in, “Come on guys, let’s not talk about politics this year!” while everyone chuckles and Uncle Phil and Aunt Lauren realize this is just the beginning… throw in your one uncle who has the craziest of political views of them all… you’re subject to run and hide into the other room to lay around and watch TV away from all the political drama.

8. The anticipation for Black Friday

The annoyingness of the Black Friday craze is at its all-time high on Thanksgiving Day… As you are enjoying the endless amounts of food and laying on the couch watching, you hear murmurs from your cousins and aunts about how fun it would be to go to the mall and check out all the deals… The last thing you want to be doing while your stomach feels like it’s about to burst is go run and wrestle through hectic moms fighting for the best deal to brag about in their weekly book club… Never a fun idea…
