    We Tried Lady Gaga's New Makeup Brand And Here's What We Thought

    "Our Haus. Your Rules."

    If you’re a lover of makeup (or a fan of Lady Gaga tbh) you’ll probably know that Lady Gaga launched her brand Haus Laboratories on Amazon recently.

    Known for her activism towards acceptance and self-expression, Gaga claims makeup helped her become the ‘superhero’ she always wanted to be, and since Haus Laboratories’ tagline is "Our Haus. Your Rules," we wanted to see how truly inclusive this brand claims to be.

    So we decided to try three of the six collections: Haus of Rose Bitch, Haus of Rockstar, and Haus of Goddess – each priced at £46.

    Each collection includes a Glam Attack Liquid Shimmer Powder, described as a “highly pigmented, long-wearing liquid eyeshadow", a RIP lip liner, a “creamy, demi-matte, highly pigmented lip pencil,” and a Le Riot Lip Gloss, an “ultra high-shine, multidimensional lip gloss.”

    The willing testers were Xavier, Hanifah and Valeza.

    Here's what we thought about the Haus of Rockstar collection.

    I think this would be more suited for a party or an event look. I thought the colour combo looked great on my complexion! I do think these shimmer shadows would work better paired with a powder eyeshadow though, for a cut crease or used as shimmer-topper.

    I really enjoyed the gold shimmer on my eyes and I loved the dark plum hue of the lip liner and lip gloss. The lip liner went on really smoothly and the gloss was highly pigmented and super glossy, without feeling sticky or overbearing. Overall, I really enjoyed this collection and would definitely wear again if I was going to a party or on a night out.

    I wasn't a fan of this collection, sorry. I just don’t understand who would team gold eyeshadow with a dark red GLOSSY lip. Separately, they look pretty nice, but I don’t think they work together. To be fair, this collection didn’t look bad on my skin tone, but the combo was just way too much. Even if I was trying to go for a dramatic look, I wouldn’t wear this. I felt like Ursula from The Little Mermaid.

    It was incredibly pigmented so when applying it felt quite heavy. If you’re looking for a super dramatic look, this is for you. There’s no need to build the colours on this collection, because once it’s on, it’s on. Despite being pretty heavily pigmented, I do have to say that this gold shadow blended pretty well, but the transfer was A LOT. Seriously, there’s still eyeshadow on my desk. As for the lip liner and gloss, I feel like these just sat on my lips. I did however, really like the colour of the gloss, so I’d maybe use it like more of a stain.

    I like this collection for more of a party look. The gold eyeshadow and red lips just scream ‘Christmas’ to me. I really like the colours of the eyes and lips separately – I think the deep vampy lip would actually go really well with a pinkier eye shimmer, and I would personally wear this gold shimmer shadow with more of a browny-nude lip. Both products applied well, I was particularly impressed with the pigmentation of the eyeshadow, but the lip liner was a bit patchy, so I had to build it up quite a bit.

    I found this collection quite average overall. The liquid shimmer shadow was quite patchy, and I had a few issues applying it onto my eyes as it began transferring. Also, I felt like the shimmer was a bit too light to wear just on its own – particularly for my skin tone. The lip liner and lip gloss were pretty average, but they looked good and I had no real issues with them.

    This was my favourite collection of the three – I prefer a more natural makeup look and I would definitely wear this day-to-day. The tones in this collection suit my colouring – it’s nice for a subtle, daytime look. Because the colour of the shimmer is close to my skin tone it didn’t need a lot of blending – it’s the kind of eye shadow I could just chuck on and go, which I enjoyed. It’s also quite buildable though, so if I wanted a more dramatic look I could pack it on in the centre, and add a darker eye shadow in the crease.

    The lip liner was a really nice nude on me, and the consistency was really creamy and long lasting – it feels more like a lipstick but has the staying power of a lip liner! The gloss is a nice topper for the lip liner and both together last really long on the lips.

    I was concerned with the paleness of this collection, and I had good reason to be. The lip pairing was OKAY in certain lightings, but I won’t be wearing this one again. I’m not a fan at all, but that’s mainly due to the colour palette being pretty uncomplimentary on me. If I'm honest, I'm not really sure what skin tone this would suit, it reminds me of those early noughties makeup sets you'd get as a christmas present, and not in a good way.

    I don't think it was actually blendable at all. It came out super liquid-y and then was really hard to actually blend in. I had to dab it very gently to avoid it coming off my eyelid as well. Having said that, I do have pretty oily skin, so I think it would work best with a good primer underneath.

    I was SHOOK! I absolutely loved this collection. I really think the purple and rose tones worked really well on my skin tone. However, I did have a tiny problem with the liquid shimmer shadow as it needed a few layers to get my desired coverage – and I did shake the shadow before using. It was a little bit patchy at first but once I added layers, it was great! I really enjoyed the lip liner and lip gloss, they were really easy to use and super pigmented.

    Something that I realised when trying these collections is that these makeup products may be better suited for someone who is more experienced when it comes to makeup. The average consumer may find issues with the shadows particularly due to their liquid formula, especially if you don't know how to blend liquid shadows. I personally think that if I had a lot more time, I would've created a look that I'd more satisfied with.

    I like the shimmer shadow, lip liner, and lip gloss all separately. I think the colours are really good for autumn/winter as they’re quite cool-toned. However, I think since I have quite a lot of pink undertones the colours didn’t pop as much against my skin as I would have liked.

    I was however, really impressed with the blendability of this shimmer shadow. Considering it showed up as quite a deep mauve on my eyelids, it didn’t look too harsh or dark, and the edges were easy to blend. Of all the eyeshadows tested, this is the one that I would actually use by itself, without adding any other shadow.

    I’d almost lost hope in Haus Laboratories, but THIS is the one collection where all the colours complement each other. This was my favourite one out of the three. I think it’s the most wearable one, and the collection that I'd recommend for beginners. All of the products were very pigmented and applied onto my skin pretty nicely – I didn’t have to put on extra layers to get really good coverage. However, the blendability was pretty much the same as the other collections. So, on a whole, not that blendable, but I so think the pigment of this one carries itself.

    I loved the clear lipgloss – I would wear this one its own. Unlike the other collections, it was way more subtle, so I wouldn’t worry about transfer.
