On Tuesday May 8th, Woodward High School hosted the Annual Academic Banquet. The banquet is always hosted in May, typically in the afternoon. This year they decided to have the banquet in the morning. It’s unknown why they decided to have the banquet in the morning, but overall it was a huge success.

The banquet started at 8:45 AM in the cafeteria and breakfast was served at 9:00. After everyone had finished breakfast, they all went to the auditorium where they were going to receive their awards.

They honored students who earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher. There were 20 Freshmen, 19 Sophomores, 23 Juniors, and 23 Seniors that were honored. Also, they honored Outstanding Seniors by Department, Scholar Athletes, the Harold Jaffe Award, and Hall of Fame Finalists.

Woodward High School student, Candace Spencer, was one of the lucky winners of the Jaffe Award. The Jaffe Award is a watch presented to an outstanding male and female student from the class of 2018. When Candace was asked about the watch she replied with “I’m so happy, I was so surprised I didn’t know I was going to win it.”

Another Woodward Student, Shamar Williams, was very happy with the awards he earned. “I got two awards. One for Choir and Social Studies, I’m very proud of myself, I deserve it.”

The 32nd Annual Academic Honors Banquet was a huge success. Many students were recognized for their achievements and were happy with their awards.
