Let's Talk About Meredith And Alex On Grey's Anatomy

Okay, after thirteen seasons of hardship, doesn’t our favorite dark and twisty surgeon deserve some happiness? Spoilers below, btw.

In 2005, our favorite bright-eyed, dark-souled surgical intern Meredith Grey met bad-boy Alex Karev on their first day of their internship.

*Fun fact: Alex was written into the show after they shot the pilot, so his scenes calling Meredith a nurse were inserted later.*

They developed a special friendship, bonding in a different way than they each did with the other interns.

They were there for each other when she was a slutty mistress and he was Evil Spawn. #tbt

Obviously, McDreamy was always in the picture, wooing Meredith and professing his love for her in elevators.

Seriously, no one can disagree that "Pick Me, Choose Me, Love Me," was iconic.

Jo used to be cool, but turning down Alex's proposal and giving him no reason? Letting him almost go to jail because she couldn't tell the truth? Ugh, she's the worst.

Through the ups and the downs, however, Alex and Meredith were always there for each other.

After Cristina left, Alex became Meredith's person.

And when Meredith disappeared for a year after Derek’s tragic death, of course Alex was her emergency contact when she had her freaking secret baby!

I know Derek was Meredith’s great love, but guys: I think it’s time for Meredith and Alex to fall in love.

(Or realize they are already in love!)

This may be controversial, since they have always acted like brother and sister.

But after a few seasons without Derek, and some soul searching, I promise I have not come to this decision lightly.

The truth is, at this point in their lives, I really think they are what each other needs. They understand each other better than anyone, plus Alex already acts like a father to Meredith's children.

Maybe they are not the epic MerDer love story, but Meredith doesn't need epic romance and crazy grand gestures anymore. She's a mom, a surgeon, and a widow. She just wants to be happy.

Their relationship has already evolved in the past few seasons...

And it was cute, despite the fact that Alex was cheating on Meredith with April, but he would never do that now.

When Meredith was brutally attacked by a patient, Alex was there for her, watched her kids, and cried with her when she finally got her hearing back.

When Alex thought he was going to be sent to jail, he said he wanted to start Waffle Sundays with her and her kids.

After the Season 13 finale, Meredith has finally learned how to move on from Derek.
