It’s international women’s day. For hundreds of years, feminists have fought for a society where men and women are equal. But contrary to what many think, feminists are a very diverse group. To celebrate their effort – and to give you some insight into the different variants of feminism – we have created a quiz: What kind of feminist are you?

Who hates you the most?

Marxist feminists blame the capitalist system for women’s oppression. The movement grew in strength in the early 19th century, when women were obliged to stay home while their husbands worked. Marxist feminists saw this to be at the source of female oppression: while men were paid for their work, the women were not work. The only way to achieve gender equality, they believed, would be through radical restructuring of the capitalist economy. Still today, capitalist structures ensure that women are in a less favourable situation than men. Women earn less than men - period. This is a global phenomena and a source of fundamental injustice that must be changed. 
As a marxist feminist, you like to get involved in workers’ unions and fight for equal pay. Or you write op-eds about how unfair it is that women today are supposed to both have a full-time job and provide for their family.
You take inspiration from Heidi Hartmann (1945-today), feminist economist and founder of the Washington based Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR).

Marxist Feminist

Suffragettes were members of women’s organisations in the late 19th and early 20th century who worked zealously to get women the right to vote. They risked jail, being beaten up or abused, but they never gave in. Thanks to their persistent fight, women can vote today.
As a suffragette you believe in democracy – real democracy where men and women are equally represented. So you work hard to get women to actually use this right. You’ll do anything to promote your cause, like hiding from your husband to protest – or jumping in front of the King’s horse, like Emily Davison did in 1913. She died from the injuries some days later.

Suffragette

Eco-feminists see critical connections between the domination of nature and exploitation of women. Eco-feminist activism grew during the 1980s and 1990s among women from the anti-nuclear, environmental and lesbian-feminist movements. One of the most famous ones today is the Vandana Shiva, an Indian scholar, environmental activist and anti-globalisation author.
Here's what you do to smash the patriarchy - march against the use of nuclear weapons and exploitation of rainforests. You never drink Coca Cola and you hope that people soon will get around to realise the severity of global warming.

Eco-Feminist

The goal of feminism is to move towards gender equality and justice for people of all genders, races and sexualities. Intersectional feminists challenge the forces that cause injustice or inequality. However, these forces are not the same for all women, because they are related to other oppressions such as racism and classism.
You're an all rounder, trying to fight all forms of oppression! You fight for gender-neutral toilets, march with women in Washington, call people out on their oppressive attitudes towards minorities – whether they’re women or not. Then you let loose and shake your booty to Beyonce or Princess Nokia.

Intersectional Feminist

You don’t think we need to fight for women’s rights. Also, feminists kind of annoy you with all their activism. We live in 2017 – what do we really have to keep fighting for? Feminists just want to complain about something. You don’t have time for that stuff.
And this is how you express your frustration with the feminazi - yelling at people who don’t support your views, comparing the Black Lives Matter movement to the Ku Klux Klan or slut-shaming other women. You probably also admire Tomi Lahren for her speaking up for white privilege.   
But do not fret! Change is inevitable and you will always be welcome to join the feminist movement!
