3. The Affair, 50-60 Minutes

The first season of this drama is extremely compelling. The clichéd summer affair storyline gets turned on its head – we are able to witness each party’s accounts of how their adulterous relationship unfolded. Unsurprisingly, there are stark differences in the two stories.

This White House satire has some of the best gags on television right now, and boy is it smart. Like, super-cheetah-speed, rapid-fire smart. Basically, if you loved the The Thick of It, you’re going to love this – as you should, because they were both created by the genius that is Armando Iannucci.

5. Moone Boy, 22 Minutes

A boy with an imaginary friend growing up in rural Ireland must simultaneously deal with the trials and tribulations of puberty and his frustrating yet charming family. What’s not to love? Chris O’Dowd as star and co-creator is a lovely cherry on top.

6. The Blacklist, 45 Minutes

When the FBI’s most wanted man waltzes into headquarters and turns himself in after eluding capture for decades, of course our curiosity is bound to be piqued. So when he then offers his services to track down the world’s most dangerous criminals on the condition of working exclusively with a rookie FBI profiler, curiosity is thrown out the window, and we’ve been reeled in for the long haul.

7. Sons of Anarchy, 38-80 Minutes

Some have described Sons of Anarchy as the best thing since The Sopranos. Is that a reason to get into this gritty drama about an outlaw motorcycle gang that is a loose, action-packed adaption of Shakespeare’s Hamlet? Definitely.

If you love zombies, watch this show. Even if you don’t love zombies, you still should watch this show. Following an apocalyptic holocaust, the horror drama follows the story of a handful of survivors who are just searching for a safe haven, while trying not to get eaten by zombies. Gripping, right?
