Why Did Kanye West Really Break Down?

Kanye West's mental breakdown within the last year has been a topic of discussion and analysis for quite some time. Some may argue it was natural, some may argue that it was a direct result of a system of control. Let's consider the possibilities.

Posted on

1. Maybe he was trying to please too many people.

"People always say that you can't please everybody. I think that's a cop-out. Why not attempt it? 'Cause think of all the people you will please if you try."

The quote by Kanye says it all itself-- you should try to please people because you may never know all of the people that you will please. But what happens when those amongst you are not satisfied by all of your efforts? This state of always attempting to placate the needs of those viewing him from the outside looking in, likely contributed to the great amounts of stress that Kanye encountered.

2. Maybe he felt invisible to those around him, even though he is a creative GENIUS!

"But for me to have the opportunity to stand in front of a bunch of executives and present myself, I had to hustle in my own way. I can't tell you how frustrating it was that they didn't get that. No joke - I'd leave meetings crying all the time."

3. Maybe he was too determined to be a voice in a world of silence.

"I will go down as the voice of this generation, of this decade, I will be the loudest voice."

4. Maybe he thinks so out of the box that people are unable to truly understand.

"You should only believe about 90 percent of what I say. As a matter of fact, don’t even believe anything that I’m saying at all. I could be completely messing with you, and the world, the entire time."

5. Maybe because he recognizes the huge divide of black and white.

"I hate the way they portray us in the media. If you see a black family it says they're looting, if you see a white family it says they're looking for food."

6. Maybe he wants to give people the opportunity to be as creative as he is.

"We're all creatives here, we're all one artist."

7. Maybe people make him out to be crazy because he's a genius; and this drove him crazy.

"We'd put our head down in the back of the class, and not be noticed out of fear that someone may laugh at one of our ideas, or that our idea could become a mockery, or a failure in some way."

8. Or, maybe he's truly misunderstood in a world that he strives to make understand him.

"I will die for the art! For what I believe in. And the art ain’t always gonna be polite!"
