10 Reasons Why Scott And Catherine From "Love Island" Are The Love Story Of The Season

Some may call it the Shonda Rhimes effect, but the truth is, if you're watching Love Island in the hopes of restoring your faith in epic love, Scott and Catherine's love story is the one to follow this season.

From the romance tropes to the off-the-charts chemistry, slowly, as they come back into the real world, they are finding their way back to each other. This is one for the history books.

10. Their connection was instant and caught us all by surprise.

It appears there's a common dominator in this show — when someone pulls another person for a chat and it's a dry and awkward first conversation, the initial attraction all about their physical appearance — “You have great eyes!” “You have a great smile!” Not Scott and Catherine though. 

Almost instantly, Scott pulled Catherine for a chat and sparks started flying as they bonded over Dublin, Irish food, music, and he guessed that she loved a certain nightclub. The way Scott was able to make Catherine laugh and smile, as if they'd known each other for years, created an emotional connection that was the start of everything.

9. No matter what happens, their chemistry has always been undeniable and at times, breathtaking.

In the Love Island Villa, we could clearly see the intensity of their chemistry, from the way Scott looked at Catherine to the way Catherine smiled every time she was with Scott. Their constant need to be physically touching each other and their playful banter was evident too. But ever since leaving the villa, especially during the reunion, their chemistry was quite literally jumping though the screens, making everyone who was watching and tweeting go absolutely nuts.

7. How, through their love story, we were able to see how easily something amazing can be ruined over fear and pride.

It was actually frustrating to watch Scott and Catherine's interactions post-Casa Amor. We all thought Catherine’s insecurities were done and dusted after Scott brought everyone around the fire pit to clear the air and ensure Catherine she has nothing to fear. But no. Casa Amor not only added to those insecurities, but also shined a light on how invested everyone was in ruining Scott and Catherine's relationship. 

We had, on one side, Catherine having to listen to everyone saying that Scott was using her and never liked her. On the other side, we had Scott thinking that by being loyal and even brutally honest was proof enough of how much he really liked Catherine. When she came back from Casa with Elom, you could see Scott's heart sink at the velocity of his head dropping, but still, we thought that a good conversation would fix everything.

It felt like they were always having two different conversations, when really they were both expecting the other to be the one to fight for their relationship. Catherine's fears blinded her almost as much as Scott's wounded heart and pride blided him. In the end, they just chose the easier option, which was to give up on what they once had.

6. How they couldn't work things out romantically in the villa, but still refused to lose each other, even if it meant only being friends.

There's something quite beautiful to me in how you adore someone so much, even if things don't work out romantically, you still refuse to lose them and you make sure they remain present in your life. You absolutely have to be incredibly emotionally mature to do that, despite being hurt, but it shows how much these two could simply not accept the idea of losing each other.

5. "Catherine was always my number one."

Scott was always kind of a mystery. He was reserved when it came to his heart, but at the same time, brutally honest when it was needed. He came across as cold at times, because his delivery was so brutal. As funny as it seems, Abi and Scott's "relationship" was needed, and very much the key for everyone to absolutely agree about the depth of Scott's feelings for Catherine. 

In every conversation with Abi, Scott would look anywhere but her, and with Catherine, it was almost like he couldn't keep his eyes off her. In Scott and Catherine's first kiss, Scott didn't want to stop kissing her, but with Abi, he was the one who pulled away. When Scott and Catherine were coupled up, he wanted to spend almost his entire time with her, even if it meant being with her and her friends. When it came to Abi, he would rather spend time with the boys. Abi was someone who probably made Scott feel seen, because he was single and it can get lonely seeing everyone else coupled but you. I do believe they did physically fancied each other. But ultimately, when the fun ran out and it was time to catch feelings, they both agreed that what they had was not "it."

It was also a beautiful full circle moment, seeing Scott getting into the last week of the show and refusing to fake feelings just for the sake of money or social media followers. He would rather go home than fake something, walking out as the “hero."

4. "He puts a smile on my face."

This moment right here, during Catherine's recoupling speech, created a key dynamic in Scott and Catherine's relationship. The moment she says this, the camera shows Scott staring and actually listening to her words. From that moment on, every time him and Catherine took a step forward in their relationship, Scott would immediately make sure that it made her smile.

After her speech, they are having a chat and he said, “As long as I put a smile on your face consistently.”

Later, when he asked her to come with him to the terrace for their first kiss, he nervously said, “Catherine, let me see that smile.”

3. They stand up for each other.

Inside the villa, we had the fire pit situation that showed them both standing up for each other and was basically giving “us against the world." Especially everything that happened post-Casa Amor and everything that was hurtfully said once they came into the real world, they still stood up for one another. 

Catherine, as it was confirmed by Scott himself, was wrongly edited out to be a villain, but never, in any moment, did she attack Scott or blame him to defend herself. And for Scott, he never deflected blame and set the record straight, taking accountability on the things he did wrong or lacked.

2. Catherine always understood Scott's time and gave him the space to figure out his heart, instead of forcing him into a decision, action, or feelings.

Both of them may have been terrible at communicating their feelings, but I'll give it to Catherine on how she understood Scott's need to have his own space and time to figure things out when it came to his heart. Even when she was involved in a love triangle with him and Leah at the beginning, Catherine was always able to distance herself, instead of pushing him into a decision. That allowed Scott to breathe and come to the realization that not only could he allow himself to be vulnerable around Catherine, but he wasn't being forced to act as someone he was not.

1. "Never Say Never."

Despite all the challenges they faced and their efforts to move on, when reality hit, they just couldn’t walk away from what could’ve been. The fact that their connection was so strong and deep that they are considering giving it another chance and fighting to find their way back to each other is quite epic.

If their exchange at the reunion proved anything, it was that their energy when they are around each other is mesmerizing and addictive. Scott couldn't look away from Catherine, and Catherine could not stop smiling around Scott.

Whatever the future holds for them, I'm really hoping it's the happy ending that the others seemed to work so hard to destroy.
