Why post to social media if no one is seeing it?

These days, the content on Instagram is very controlled. Posts, hashtags, stories and any other form of media on the site is being filtered through Instagram’s AI system. That leads to a lot of posts getting chucked out of the window, or worse, shadowbanned.

What’s shadowbanning?

Shadowbanning on Instagram is when your account’s posts are hidden from people you follow. This results in your followers not seeing your content at all! A cerain account’s hashtags also may be disabled as well during a “shadowban”. For years Instagram has claimed that they do not shadowban accounts. However recently, they finally admitted to slightly hiding posts they feel are innapprorpiate. They call it “demoting” posts.

These new “demotions” are causing creators to lose touch with their followers. Instead of removing every post they few as innappropriate, they block it from being featured on the Explore Page and Hashtags.

I currently run the Instagram account @vintagexpast. Almost every week I’m hit with random demotions of my posts. Right now, I get this message on my account’s hashtag, #vintagexthreads. I can promise you my posts aren’t “innappropriate” at all. My account mostly consists of vintage photos and stories about old stars.

Creators are losing reach, Instagram is gaining 💰

These issues are all arising after Instagram introduced a new promotional feature. Instagram promised creators to provide new ways to reach people, but instead have nickeled and dimed them. Instead of creating ways to reach new people, Instagram seem to have hidden posts from influencers and creators in the hopes they’d pay to be seen.

Sponsored Posts Don’t Seem Too Bad... Right?

Sponsored Posts have arguably been the worse thing to happen to Instagram since the loss of chronological posts. They seem to be total scams. Many influencers have posts to YouTube complaining they paid for “sponsored Posts”, only to find that Instagram took their money without actually promoting them thoroughly. https://youtu.be/QclJzowj8ko

Followers are being deleted! (Allegedly)

A lot of people have complained of unfollowing accounts they never intended to unfollow. They also have complained of following accounts they never followed. One girl woke up and suddenly she was following Spongebob...

Will Instagram ever be in the hands of the users?
