Kandy’s Temple Of Tooth Relic

Otherwise known as the “Temple of the Tooth Relic”, the Sri Dalada Maligawa is said to house the relic of sacred tooth of Buddha. Revered by Buddhists all over the world, this religious attraction was recently named as “World’s first-ever Eco Religious Site”.

Brought down to Sri Lanka from India from the present-day Orissa State from 310 to 328 A.D, the sacred tooth of Buddha is placed within the palatial complex of the former Kandy Royal Palace.

It is also a UNESCO Heritage Site

An Eco Religious Site

The Ministry of Local Government along with Provincial Councils recently declared the religious grounds to be free of plastic and polythene. The authorities have also taken steps to execute a recycling programme within the temple premises disposing more than four tonnes of garbage daily.
