10 Forgotten Iconic 80's Hits

A typical 80's playlist would consist of the likes of Hungry Like The Wolf by Duran Duran, Girls Just Want To Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper & Billie Jean by Michael Jackson. But how about the songs that often go unnoticed by people other than die hard fans of the artist? Lets have a look at 10 forgotten hits released in the 1980's!

1) Culture Club - I'll Tumble 4 Ya

'I'll Tumble 4 Ya' is the fifth single released from Culture Club's first studio album 'Kissing To Be Clever', It was in the US billboard hot 100 - peaking at number 9 and remaining in the charts for 16 weeks!

2) Japan - Quiet Life

The British art-rock band are a rather underrated band as it is, 'Quiet Life' comes from Japan's third studio album of the same name - It was the band's first charting album and has been described as one of the first albums of the New Romantic movement, though Japan always flatly denied they were New Romantics.

3) Duran Duran - All She Wants Is

'All She Wants Is' is the second single from Duran Duran's fifth studio album 'Big Thing', their second album as a three-piece. Turning to more synth/bass heavy grooves than their previous efforts, Big Thing was seen as the band's "house music" album and this single is a personal favourite of mine, also!

4) George Michael - Monkey

Monkey is a single taken from our late George's debut album, the iconic 'Faith'! Released in 1988, this dance-rock hit reached Number One on the US charts and Number Thirteen in the UK.

5) Madonna - Dress You Up

'Dress You Up' is a single from the Queen Of Pop's iconic 1984 'Like A Virgin' album! The lyrics are an extended metaphor for fashion and sex and was produced by the great Nile Rogers, It reached Number Four in the UK charts.

6) The Human League - The Things That Dreams Are Made Of

Despite this single from the iconic Synth Pop band not being released until 2008 to promote THL's 30th anniversary tour, It was originally recorded for the 1981 album 'Dare!' and was even featured in 'The Young Ones', Of course it has been played endless times by fans who have played the album - It isn't necessarily the band's best known song, For the record, the timeless 'Don't You Want Me' is!

7) New Kids On The Block - Stop It Girl

This 1986 bubblegum flop was written by Maurice Starr, Coming from New Kids On The Block's self titled debut album - This song was inspired by The Osmonds song 'One Bad Apple', Of course this song is hardly NKOTB's best known song, But it's definitely one that New Kid's fans know word for word. Ben Hanscom (from the IT remake) even had a poster of the album cover on the back of his bedroom door!

8) Toto - Stranger In Town

Toto are well known for their hit 'Africa', This 1984 song is from the album 'Isolation'. The song was the band's highest-ever charting Mainstream Rock track, eventually peaking at number 7!

9) David Bowie - Cat People (Putting Out Fire)

Cat People is the title song for the 1982 movie of the same name, A re-recorded version of the song appears on the album Let's Dance. The song itself, in keeping with the dark tone of the film, has some slight goth rock influences, with Bowie singing in a deep baritone croon while being backed up by a female chorus.

10) Kajagoogoo - Big Apple

Kajagoogoo are well known for their hit 'Too Shy', Produced by the androgynous keyboardist in Duran Duran, Nick Rhodes. After lead singer Limahl was fired from the band, Bassist Nick Beggs took over and performed lead vocals on this song, Big Apple is from the album 'Islands'.
