Though, no one would like their top scorer's career to end, his season has arguably been a disappointing season at United, with the 35-year-old arriving for the first time in what is widely regarded as being the most competitive league in the world has only scored 28(in all comps) goals... In his last season he banged 50 goals(in all comps)!!!

28 goals in all competitions suggests the ability hasn't been lost ,and replacing zlatan isn't easy(some also say its impossible to replace him), but here are a few reasons why he hasn't been doing well in the last few games!

While he has scored some great goals, he is the one to take blame for a lot of chances that have been missed, especially at home, against teams that were expected to be beaten.

Paul Pogba could benefit

The 24-year-old has the playmaking abilities to split defences open as long as the right runs are being made. But with the speed of ageing Zlatan its not quite possible.

‘He (Pogba) needs to play further up the pitch but when you do that, it helps to have a centre-forward with pace. They don’t have that with Zlatan Ibrahimovic,’ Paul Merson wrote in his Daily Star column last month.

A glimpse of next season

Finishing in the top four won’t be easy and the Europa League may now be United’s most realistic route into next season’s Champions League.

For Mourinho to have an opportunity to experiment with new options up front will give a chance to some young players to show their talent.

His future was already in some doubt, and if he really is out until January then there seems no sense in keeping him just to play half a season, when he’ll be 36 and recovering from a long time out.
