Which Leicester Student Group Should You Join?

What's the most exciting thing about University life?  


If you could be any animal, what would you be?

Where will you be found on Wednesday afternoons?

Be Honest: Do you volunteer to help people or for your CV?

Which of these would you watch on Netflix?

Which of these fictional societies would you most like to join?

You’re proud of your culture and love learning about new cultures from those around you. Why not join one of our many Faith or National and Cultural societies or groups like Erasmus and Exchange, Languages of Leicester and the International Students’ Association?

Curious

You’re independent and proud of it, and you like to stand out from the crowd. Joining one of our ‘unusual’ societies such as Quidditch, Pole Fitness and Dance, Laser Tag, Curry, or Burlesque will mean you always have an ‘interesting fact’ about yourself to bring out in those awkward icebreaker sessions.

Independent

You have lots of energy and like to be up on stage. One of our performance groups such as Cheer and Stunt, LUTheatre, Dancesport, Pole Dance or Fitness, Modern Dance, Street Dance or Swing Dance will be a perfect fit!

Show Off

You’re passionate about social justice and consider yourself an advocate of those less fortunate than you. You would fit in well with many of our campaigning societies such as the Feminist Society, HeForShe, Amnesty International, ENACTUS or Hope Not Hate.

Advocate

You can’t make it through a conversation without making it about politics, so you should join one of our politically minded societies such as Labour, Conservatives, Young Liberals, Socialist Students, or the Marxist Society or hone your debating skills as part of the United Nations Society.

Future MP

You’re nerdy and not ashamed to show it. You will find a wide variety of interest-led societies such as Sci Fi and Fantasy, Japanese Animation, Games, Film, eSports, the Book Society and K-Pop and Culture that cater to your tastes.

Geek

You care about the environment and are probably going to be the person in halls pushing everyone to recycle. Environmental Action, Hungry for Change, or the Vegan and Vegetarian Society might suit you!

The Eco Warrior

You’re likely aiming for a First, and you’re convinced you’ll spend most of your time in the library. You should definitely join the academic society for your course, but other intellectually stimulating societies such as Philosophy, Speakers’ Union, United Nations, Chess, or History of Art might suit you!

The Academic

You’ve got a passion for music and an ear for rhythm and whatever your instrument or style we have a society for you. You can join the Chamber Choir, Band and Gig Society, Voices, Orchestra, Big Band and many more besides!

The Musician

You thrive in a competitive environment and enjoy physical activity, so you’ll be welcome in any of our Team Leicester clubs or Sports Societies whether you’re already a champion athlete or want to take up something new. From American Football to Volleyball, there’s a team for everyone!

The Sports Superstar

You’re creative and artistically inclined. From Creative Space to Fashion to Art we’ve got a society that will connect you with likeminded people. Alternatively, our media groups Galaxy Radio, Galaxy Press, and LUST (our Student Television) might appeal to you.

The Creative

You’re at one with nature and love nothing more than escaping the city and getting some fresh air. You can join Mountaineering, Hiking, PCSB Geology, Officers Training Corps or SLUGs and do just that!

The Outdoors Type

You’re caring and love to help those in need. Why not do something to make a difference at University, and volunteer for one of our support groups such as Nightline, Sexpression, Pro Bono, the LGBTQA+ Association, Mental Health Awareness and Support, or the Autistic Spectrum Society.

Supportive

You’re at University purely to reach the next stage of your life and start a high powered career. One of our career-focused societies such as Bright Futures, Networking, or Commercial Awareness might help you reach your goals!

The Networker

Whether you’re a medical student or not, you’ve watched more than your fair share of Greys Anatomy. You’ll be a perfect fit in any of our medically inclined societies such as First Aid, Medsin, Anatomy, Friends of MSF, SCRUBs or the almighty LUSUMA

The Medic

Perhaps you regularly volunteer your time and money for charity, or you just have a cause close to your heart you’d like to support more at University. Either way, any of our charitable societies like Friends of MSF, Student Minds, UNICEF, Homeless Outreach, Marrow or CATs would be lucky to have you!
