The best thing about FallFest is...

You’re the student on the stage, prepping in advance to show off your talent and heart for your student organization. You usually come early so as not to miss your performance and spend most of your time with members of your student org and friends afterwards. Surprisingly (or not so surprisingly), you’re likely to be found near any of the stages or at a food truck getting a bite to eat. You usually stay for other performances to support friends that are involved with other organizations. Most of your night is spent sitting on the grass or standing on the side lines cheering on performers. The food trucks and free soda buckets are definitely for you since you’ll need to stay energized. Whether you’re performing an Irish dance, playing the ukulele, or stepping with your fraternity, keep a lookout for some this year’s free FallFest chapstick (we want you looking your best on stage), and smartphone wallets (less is more for you since you move around so much)!

THE PERFORMER

You come at the beginning, stay until the very end, and have the best time out there. You’re decked out in Carolina gear and are prepared to collect a ton of extra UNC stuff. You’re fun and enthusiastic and have never missed a FallFest (and will never miss a future one, if you’re a first year). You attend with a group of friends with whom you’ll have a great time at the event! Others are going to have a hard time finding where exactly you are considering you’ll probably be within the huge masses of people accumulating snazzy free items and scouting where the basketball players are. Make sure to get yourself some FallFest buttons, laptop stickers, and drawstrings bags: you can never rep UNC enough, can you?

THE DIE-HARD TAR HEEL FAN

FallFest is the first big UNC event of the year, so of course you’re there! You aren’t on anyone's time clock, so you’ll arrive after meeting up with friends beforehand and probably make a beeline for the free food from the FallFest sponsors. Once you get some food, you’ll either sit and talk on Hooker fields while watching performances, or you’ll walk up and down South Road picking up any remaining free items. Whether you spend four hours or 45 minutes at FallFest, you’ll end up making at least five new friends and joining a couple of student org listservs, too. Double check if there are any laptop stickers or buttons left as those are great conversation starters during the school year and you can use them to meet even more people. Also be sure to snag a smartphone wallet so that you can keep all important cards close.

THE SOCIAL BUTTERFLY

Much like a Social Butterfly, you arrive at Fall Fest when the time is right for you. You can usually be found sitting or standing on Hooker fields, doodling in a journal, listening to performances, talking to friends, and eating from food trucks. You end the night having seen all of the 8 types of people you could meet at Fall Fest. The smiles and laughs you see from others is reflected on your own face as you spend time with friends and enjoy the night. In short, you really take the time to cherish the event. You appreciate the free food, awesome swag, and fun activities. You spend the entire night going with the flow and that makes every year’s FallFest a great experience for you! Make sure to pick up a free FallFest notebook and pen on your way into the event!

THE PEOPLE WATCHER

This might be your first FallFest. If so, welcome! You’ll either be right on time or a couple of minutes late because Convocation went a little long. When Carmichael’s doors open up to Hooker fields, you’ll experience a fresh and contagious wave of FallFest excitement. All the swag, free food, performances, and activities are for you to enjoy and start your Carolina experience off right! Be sure to grab one of our drawstring bags to hold everything you’ll take home, a smartphone wallet to keep all important cards close, a pen to sign up for the student organization listservs you’re passionate about, and anything that our sponsors offer that night. Soak it all in at your first FallFest!

THE NEW KID ON THE BLOCK

You spend the entire time at FallFest actively recruiting new students for your organization. You are motivated, fun, and usually surrounded by a group of others that are doing the exact same thing as you. You believe in your organization and want others to join as well. You’re that person walking around yelling “JOIN [Insert student org here] NOW”. If anyone is looking for you, they’ll have no problems picking you out of the crowds thanks to your huge sign. Drawstring bags and smartphone wallets are a must so that everything important is kept close!

THE ACTIVIST

Your volunteer spirit and motivated attitude make you stand out! You arrive at FallFest fairly early and spend much of your time enjoying performances, eating free food, getting awesome swag, and signing up for student organizations. You may question how you’ll have the time to participate in all of the groups you signed up to be in, but with your determination and can-do attitude, you’ll make it work! Student organizations can change our community with your service and the positive vibes given off at Fall Fest are largely a result of you and your “do-it-all” personality! Keep a lookout for our drawstring bags so that you can keep any informational brochures/flyers from student orgs safe. Free pens and notebooks will also help you write down all of the great info you get from the night.

THE DO-IT-ALL LISTSERVER

You show up early and on a mission. The saying, “The best things in life are free” fits you to a “T”, so you prepare to get the most out of FallFest. During the school year, you’re probably the person that people go to for extra cups or bowls because you take full advantage of collecting them at this event. Your mantra is ‘Free, Phree, $free.99’ the entire night. Any and all items are up for grabs and will be grabbed by you. When you read the words: “take one”, you interpret them as meaning “take the entire bowl.” Our advice: get the drawstring bag first to collect all of you’re new items in (you’ve probably already come with several). People may not be able to find you for a good 30 minutes while you scour every vendor and booth for all things PHREE, but once your bags are filled and your mission completed, you’re ready to have a great night!
