Top 5 Beaches You Need To Visit Before Your First Year At UCSD

OK so we know that a big part of the reason you chose UC San Diego was its location right?! But honestly, there are SO many beaches in the San Diego area that it's quite hard to decide which one to go to. Below, we separated our top 5 favorite beaches that you must go to have the ultimate Californian experience. (note: all of these places are either walking distance from campus, or can be easily accessed using the MTS buses)

1. Del Mar Dog Beach

Dogs and the ocean? Yes please! On this beach, dogs are allowed to roam freely between Labor Day and June 15th. It is a perfect opportunity for you to take a break from your physics homework and go pet some doggos.

2. Windansea beach

If you are one of those adventurous, Outback-y kids, than this beach is the right place for you. Its severe shore break and underwater reef makes it the perfect place for catching some waves. Located a bit south of La Jolla Cove, Windansea is the perfect place for a weekend adventure.

3. Scripps Beach

Scripps beach is right next to UCSD's Scripps Institute of Oceanography complex, so in other words, it's almost on campus. It is not a very crowded beach, so its perfect for relaxing. Oh, the best part? Due to its proximity to the Institute, you can get UCSD's wifi right on the sand!

4. Blacks Beach

Blacks Beach is quite the secret spot for the tritons. It is located right across from Muir College, below the cliffs. After a 15 minute walk downhill you will arrive at this calm and heavenly beach, which is also known for its awesome surfing conditions. Just a quick warning: the walk back uphill can be quite tiring (but completely worth it!)

5. Pacific Beach

Pacific beach, or "PB" as it's best known for, is the right place if you are looking for a lively and entertaining place. People bike around the coastline and play all sorts of beach sports. There are a lot of restaurants and shops nearby, so you can treat yourself after a fun day at the beach!
