This Fashion Brand Was Caught Appropriating Black Culture And It's Not Who You Think

Once again, a brand has turned a blind eye to the issue of cultural appropriation and with much surprise; Chanel is the latest offender. Karl Lagerfeld had white models donned in Bantu knots and cornrows for the 2017 Chanel show, distastefully so, we might add.

Lagerfeld definitely is not the only designer or brand guilty of appropriating black culture. In 2015, Marc Jacobs practically did the same thing! He had white models, Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid among others, walking down the runway of his show with colorful dreadlocks, even though he has plenty of black models to choose from.

Facebook users also lashed out at Cosmopolitan when they posted on their account a video showcasing cornrows being “a new trend.” Here's what some people had to say about that:

Hopefully in 2017 brands will become more socially aware and learn to be more inclusive with their representation. Rather than choosing to appropriate someone else's culture, they will emulate it so that it more closely personifies reality.
