1. Lauridsen Skatepark

Des Moines is home to an 88,000-square-foot, Olympic-caliber skatepark — the largest public skatepark in the nation — designed for skateboarders of every level. If that sounds like you, set your sights on Lauridsen Skatepark. 

2. Arnolds Park

Rife with 1950s-themed Americana nostalgia, Arnolds Park is an experience the entire family will enjoy. Featuring carnival games, hand-dipped ice cream, and memorable rides like The Legend roller coaster, Arnolds Park has a little bit of fun for everyone. 

3. The Iowa Great Lakes

One of Iowa’s best kept secrets is the state's Great Lakes. In and around the city of Okoboji, you can cruise around in a boat, relax on the beach, or engage in fine dining set against the city's small-town charm.

4. The National Balloon Classic

For nine days every summer, Iowa's skies transform into a kaleidoscope of colors during the National Balloon Classic in Indianola. While balloonists from all over the country compete for points and prizes, visitors watching from below enjoy live music, food, and fireworks.

5. Mines of Spain

Iowa's Mines of Spain feature almost 1,500 acres of beautiful wooded and prairie land just south of Dubuque. Visitors can get in some epic hiking in the spring and summer months, in addition to cross-country skiing in the winter. While exploring, visitors might just catch a glimpse of a bobcat, red-shouldered hawk, flying squirrel, white-tailed deer, or wild turkey along the Mississippi River Blufflands.

7. Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI)

If cycling is your thing, make sure to check out the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (also know as RAGBRAI). It’s an epic, eight-day rolling festival of bicycles, music, food, camaraderie, and community. RAGBRAI is the oldest, largest, and longest multiday bicycle touring event in the world.

9. Iowa State Fair

It’s almost State Fair season! Iowa welcomes back this historic celebration with open arms in mid-August. America’s classic state fair offers musical performances, wacky contests, rides, competitions, and more.
