The second release on Javier Carballo’s Underyourseat outlet has been delivered by one of Offenbach’s finest, Matt Star, accompanied by Romanian maestro, Priku. A veteran of the scene and a regular in Offenbach's globally-renowned Robert Johsnon, Star has repped some of the scene's finest labels, including Leftback, Cocoon, Rawax and more. Here, we tapped him up for some of his favourite Offenbach jams, as he gave us a glimpse into what makes the city such an inspiring musical hub...

Main Records

'My big love, my musical socialisation, the place to find/get rare and great records. Not just techno and house but also funk, and obscure pop music. I've been buying most of my records there since 2000 or so. Me and my brother started working there in 2003, and he took over the shop afterwards in 2005. Since then I always find most of the stuff that I need for my gigs there. If you're in Offenbach make an appointment and come round - there are no regular opening times!'

Robert Johnson

'The club I've been most to in my life, superb sound system, nice open minded crowd, lovely staff, small and intimate - I actually never thought about playing there as I prefer much more to dance there to some of my favourite DJs. Also, for a long time I did parties below Robert Johnson at former MTW Lounge (now Studio Offenbach).'

'The spot for the pre-party, having drinks and having good food. loads of nice restaurants and bars, plus 3 days a week there's a market for vegetables, fruits, fish, etc and also only 5 minutes from my house ;) '

'If I need a timeout and for relaxing the mind, I love nature and forests so this is my place to spend time for that. Also good for recovering after a hard weekend partying.'

Markets

'I like the fact that Offenbach is multicultural; we have people living here from all over the world so you find lots of nice little shops for food, and other things that you don't get at your regular supermarket. I always find new and interesting things in hidden spots. Places like Oktay Market near my flat or L’afrique near Wilhelmsplatz. It’s inspiring to have that mix of cultures which live peacefully together. It inspires me each day for doing music that I like and having the best food from all over the world. I never thought about living in another city than Offenbach. Also Frankfurt and its Airport is pretty close, so it feels like living in a big metropolitan region even if Offenbach only has around 130,000 inhabitants.'
