5 Techno Acts You Simply Cannot Miss at Exit

Exit is one of the original European festivals and still packs a real punch. Of course it takes place in a Serbian fort, this year from July 4th to 7th, and offers a mix of indie, techno and plenty more. The Cure, Carl Cox, Skepta, DJ Snake, Amelie Lens and many more all play next to some of the finest names in techno. Here we look at five of them.

Jeff Mills

Mills is still a techno pioneer. His cosmic, space age sounds take you into another dimension and his mastery of the 909 means his drum patterns are second to none. Above them he then layers in molten, hypnotic, sci fi synths that add colour and adventure and mane he is still the best name in techno.

I Hate Models

Frenchman I Hate Models debut in 2016 and has made a big mark with his acid, industrial, ambient, trance tinged sounds. They have come on labels like Rave Or Die, Perc Trax, VOITAX and many more. As a contemporary star he is one of the best.

SHDW & Obscure Shape

This duo is all about big room sounds. They supersize their beats and synths to blow your mind in the biggest of spaces and hail from Stuttgart. They land on Soma, Afterlife, Rekids and other top labels and their no-nonsense vibe is brilliantly energetic and physical. 2019 is already a big year for the pair and a set at EXIT will be another massive step to the top.

Dax J

London born but Berlin based, Dax J is now at the top table of techno. He’s placed high in plenty of respected DJ polls and his trademark sound is dark and driving and firmly in the underground. He has put out a couple of albums and got support from all the major players so don’t miss out.

Blawan

This north of England artist has brought back visceral, raw techno to the fore. His releases on labels like R&S were twisting, writhing monsters, while he also blew the roof of many clubs with his Karenn project with Pariah. His modular synth setup leads to plenty of weird and wonderful sounds so do not miss him at Exit.
