Bentota is located on the south of Sri Lanka, approximately 2 hours from the International airport. You’ll be able to find the hatchery project located near the Galle Road in Bentota. However, if you’re staying at Saman Villas or any other southern boutique hotels in Sri Lanka, it’s only 5 minutes away.

Turtles

Sri Lanka’s beaches are known to be visited by 5 endangered species of sea turtles, namely, Green Turtle, Loggerhead, Olive Ridley Turtle, Leatherback and Hawksbill Turtle.

Entrance Fee

A fee of Rs. 500 is charged to ensure the highest care is given to the turtles that visit the golden sandy beach of Bentota.

The Hatchery

Once the turtles lay eggs on the beach, the project organizers collect the eggs for safe keeping in their hatchery, to avoid it being eaten by predators (which includes humans!).
