Friend or foe?
Sharks may be dangerous and you should just get out of the water or on the shore if you ever see one. Sharks may attack if hungry or intimidated, or feel threatened in any way. More sharks are killed every year then sharks kill humans-the numbers are 100 million sharks are killed every year while only about 50-100 humans are killed by sharks. The most dangerous sharks are surprisingly not The great white, It is the bull shark. Bull sharks get their name from their short, blunt snout, as well as their pugnacious disposition and a tendency to head-butt their prey before attacking. They slowly move closer to their prey before attacking at a short distance trying to seem innocent then striking so suddenly. Bull sharks can be found in freshwater(not salted). along coastlines, bays, and harbors, they also frequent a most uncommon shark habitat—freshwater rivers. The species has been spotted 2,500 miles (4,000 kilometers) up the Amazon River in South America and dwell in Lake Nicaragua, a freshwater lake in Central America.
Why are we killing them?
Shark fins are considered a delicacy in some parts of the world and are illegal in other places. The fins make special soup and are VERY expensive. Shark fin once prepared exclusively for the Chinese emperors and nobility. The cartilage from the fin is carefully dried and prepared and used as an ingredient in a soup flavored with seafood or chicken broth and herbs. The fins are mostly made from great white sharks.
Why are they killing us?
The sharks who will eat humans are Bull shark, tiger shark, Great white shark, Mako shark, hammerhead shark, and the Oceanic whitetip shark. Sharks may mistake humans for their usual and natural prey. Most sharks will feed on fish like tuna, and other marine mammals(voters and seals). the main reason sharks attack humans is because of curiosity, and/or if they feel threatened.
Sharks are top of the food chain-FALSE
Some people think sharks are the main predators of the seas-WRONG. There are such things as shark eating orcas. Yes, you have heard me right-orcas that eat sharks!
