5 Times Ed Sheeran Has Written About His Substance Abuse

Our favorite ginger has been telling us for years of his struggles through his song lyrics. So the headlines of "Secret Struggle" throws me off. A sad thing I've noticed about Ed is that a lot of his listeners assume all of his songs deal with love; I've literally been to a wedding that's played A-Team. Yes, the first dance was to a song about prostitution and cocaine. Here are fivetimes Ed shared his struggles before the big "secret" reveal.

    1. I think you hate the smell of smoke you always tryna get me to stop but you drink as much as me and I get drunk a lot -Wake Me Up

    2. If you loved me how'd you never learn, colored crimson in my eyes, one or two could free my mind- Bloodstream

Lyrics are obviously controversial to anyone who didn't actually write the song, but in my opinion, Bloodstream is obviously about a struggle with drugs. In this line, I feel like Ed is saying he's surprised no one is noticing that he's slipping because he feels as if it's obvious. I also think it hits on how the substances ease his mind showing the hardship there is in being a celebrity.

    3. I took a pill and went to sleep on the last step woke up and took it in with a half breath then a deep sigh I struck a match stick I lit my cigarette feeling half dead, whiskey on my mind -London Bridge

    4. She handed me a bottle of water filled with tequila I already know she's a keeper just from this one small act of kindness, I'm in deep if anybody finds out I'm meant to drive home but I'm drunk and gonna live it now -Sing

Over the summer I was lucky enough to see Ed live, and this was one of the most entertaining songs he performed that night. This line though shows that he certainly has had a drinking problem.

    5. You know that I've got whisky with white lines and smoke in my lungs -Eraser
