In December 2016, President Obama designated the Bears Ears National Monument, over 2,000 square miles of spectacular landscape in Southeastern Utah with significant environmental and cultural significance. The monument was proposed by five Tribes with ancestral ties to the land, and is supported by the majority of Native and non-Native Utahns alike. This April, President Trump signed an executive order demanding a review of all monument designations in the last two decades, a move which particularly threatens Bears Ears. In response, thousands of concerned people rallied at the Utah State Capitol to show their support for keeping Bears Ears National Monument protected in its entirety.
