1. "The horrifying truth about Elliot's father" - Mr. Robot

Oooh this episode made me bawl to the point I ended up having a headache. In this heart wrenching episode of Mr. Robot, Elliot gets kidnapped by his obsessive stalker/drug kingpin Vera, who also is holding his therapist Krista hostage. In order to save her, Elliot tries out so many escape plans, which ultimately fail and this makes Vera finally declare to hold a mock therapy session between the two of them to find out why Mr. Robot existed in the first place. The horrible truth finally came into light by the end, when Elliot slowly realised that his father, who he fought for his whole life, was nothing but a predatory monster who molested his son. Not only did this moment broke down Elliot completely, but it practically brought the audiences to tears.

2. "Kotomi's Past" - Clannad

Poor Kotomi. Unbenknowst to Tomoya, he and Kotomi used to be childhood friends back then. But in high school, they lost contact, though he finally decides to spend some more time with her to get to know her. But then one day a bus accident causes Kotomi to have a breakdown. Then we find out why this happened when Tomoya visits her in her house and she tells him about her past. Her family was a very happy family. Her birthday was coming up soon, but unfortunately, her parents had to go to America on a business trip that means they had to miss their daughter's birthday. They did promise her that they will bring her a teddy bear as a gift from overseas, Kotomi was so distraught that she angrily said that she hated them. Sadly, this was the last thing she ever said to them, her friends failed to show up at her birthday party and she found out that her parents died in a plane crash. This sent Kotomi into depression and caused her to nearly burn her house down. Thankfully, Tomoya and his friends are able to help her by renovating her garden and she finds out that the Gentleman who came to her house that day was going to tell her that the suitcase contained the teddy bear that her parents promised her, which finally gave Kotomi peace about her parents' death.

3. "Kaori's letter" - Your Lie In April

Kaori is the female protagonist of the anime Your Lie In April who enters Kousei's life like a whirlwind and teaches him to be more livelier and confident with her free spirit and inspired him to live his life. As they began to grow closer, Kaori's health began to deteriorate and unfortunately during Kousei's live performance, Kaori dies during surgery. But not before writing a letter to Kousei confessing her feelings to him. She tells him that she looked up to him and had a crush on him since childhood, which inspired her to give up piano and do violin in hopes of performing alongside Kousei someday. Then she found out that she and Kousei were in the same junior high school together, but couldn't meet him fearing she will make things awkward between him and Tsubaki, as they seemed to be close. Then when she found out she was dying, she gave herself a makeover and turned into the Kaori we knew and fell in love with. She later revealed that her lie in April was that she liked Watari just so she could come close to Kousei. She confesses that she loved him and she is sorry for whatever she put him through. Kaori was such a bright and amazing spirit that everyone needed in their lives and her death left a huge impact on everyone. But thankfully, her spirit will live on.

4. "Buffy finds her mom dead" - Buffy The Vampire Slayer

In this heartbreaking episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer titled The Body, Buffy comes back home, only to find her mother, Joyce lying motionless on the couch, pale and her eyes wide open. Buffy keeps on calling out for her, but she is unresponsive. This causes her to panic and call out for help, anything to save her mother, but to no avail. What is one of the most heartbreaking aspects about her death is that it wasn't caused by any supernatural entity, her death was natural but sudden. Joyce's death had left such a huge impact on Buffy, Dawn and everyone else throughout the series. To twist the knife further, there was a dream sequence where Joyce was saved and reunited with Buffy and Dawn, but sadly it wasn't real.

5. "The Death of Marshall's father" - How I Met Your Mother.

Marshall and Lily were trying for a baby and to be sure, they decided to take a fertility test to see if they can have a baby. In between, Marshall's parents visited them and his dad reassured him that everything will be okay, even if they adopt the child. Then at the end everything goes well for Marshall and Lily as they both are proven to be fertile...but unfortunately, their celebration is cut short by the news of Mr. Eriksen dying from a heart attack. Marshall is so broken up about his death that he hugs Lily and tearfully says: "I am not ready for this..."

6. "The final goodbye" - Friends

Isn't it sad when we have to say goodbye to our favourite characters who made us laugh and cheered us up for years? We end this iconic sitcom with our friends finally emptying the famous apartment as they reminiscent about all the best moments that they spent in this very place that they call home before Monica and Chandler move to their new home in the suburbs with their adopted babies. Just as Chandler said, the apartment was a very happy place filled with love and laughter. But what puts the nail right into the coffin is when the group give away their keys to the apartment and for the last time we see the iconic door frame on screen.

7. "Will gets abandoned again" - The Fresh Prince of Bel Air

Will gets elated when he sees that his biological father has returned to redeem himself for his son. Though Uncle Phil wasn't very happy about his return and felt that something wasn't right about him. His doubts were proven right when Lou decides to abandon him again, just as he and Will were about to leave on a field trip. This causes Will to make an angry speech about how he was able to survive without him before he breaks down and asks: "How come he don't want me, man?" as Uncle Phil hugs him.

8. "Penelope messages herself" - One Day At A Time

When she feels like that she has gotten her life back on track, Penelope decides to stop taking anti-depressants and stop attending group therapy all together without consulting her doctor and treat herself. Though sadly, it causes her to go on a severe depressive spiral which causes her to lash out at Schnieder and stay on her bed, not wanting to move at all. She finally decides to record a gut wrenching and heartbreaking message to herself about what is the point of living if she can't feel anything. Schneider tells her that she should go back to her meds as she needs them and they both make up.

9. "Hanna's backstory" - Pretty Little Liars

Hanna is one of the most complex, strong and interesting characters on Pretty Little Liars. Though her backstory was one the most heartbreaking ones we've seen in the series. We see that Hanna had dealt with bulimia and binge eating disorder in the past. Hanna had binge ate to deal with her feelings about her parents getting divorced. She even mentioned several times how she felt powerless and worthless over stopping her parents fighting or Alison picking on her weight. What makes this whole thing worse was that not only did we see Alison bully her for her weight and make her throw up constantly as an unhealthy way of losing weight, but also Mona as A forced her to binge eat a bunch of cupcakes in the present day, especially since she knew about her eating disorder from the beginning.

10. "Debra's breakdown" - Dexter

We've seen Debra go through so much crap throughout the series, but this was one of the worst. She was happy dating one of her superiors Frank Lundy and they both were in love with each other dearly. But sadly, all of this was cut short when Debra was shot and Lundy was killed in front of her. After the incident, Debra returns to the crime scene where it happened and she has a severe breakdown over losing him and losing everything as Dexter comforts her. She even called him out on how he should make up for everything and not be like her, calling herself a mess.

11. "Jesse loses Jane" - Breaking Bad

With a lot of horrors Jesse went through over the course of Breaking Bad, this was one of the first things that happened. Jesse was in love with Jane, his neighbour and fellow addict. One night they decided to get high on heroin for one last time before they got clean and ran away. Walt thought that Jane was getting in between them so one night he went to Jesse's apartment and accidentally rolled Jane, which caused her to choke on her own vomit. Walt decided to not help her and let her die instead, which was one of the worst things he has ever done. The next morning, Jesse found her dead next to her, which caused him to go on a downward spiral, where he constantly blamed himself for her death and called her number as a way to hear her voice one last time.

12. "Elle tells Helena about Campbell" - The Society

We all know that Campbell is an established sadistic scumbag in the series, but what makes him even more despicable is his treatment of his girlfriend Elle. Throughout the series he puts her through domestic abuse and isolates her from the world, all the while appearing loving towards her. She tries to escape from him several times, even going as far as to trying to kill herself. She finally has had enough and confesses Helena and Allie about what Campbell has put her through and how she is scared for her life.

13. "Kayo's breakfast" - Erased

Satoru Fujinuma is a time traveller who goes back in time to prevent a tragedy from happening. Here he goes way back in 14 years time to save his friend Kayo from being murdered. There he finds out that she was being abused by her mother. He, his friends and his mother Sachiko step up to save the girl and help her. One morning Kayo wakes up and sees that Sachiko has made a filling and hearty home cooked meal for her, in comparison to the instant noodles and toast that she had to get for breakfast. This causes Kayo to have tears in her eyes, grateful that she has people around her who care about her.

14. "Nina's fate" - Fullmetal Alchemist

Nina was such a poor and innocent soul who was taken away from us too soon. Nina was a daughter of a scientist who befriended Edward and Alphonse and was generally and cheerful and friendly person. But sadly, Shou Tucker, a narcississtic sociopath that he is, decided to experiment on his own daughter to gain alchemist license. He turned her into a chimera by merging her and her dog Alexander and worst part is that he was completely remorseless in doing so. The damage was so irreversible that Nina was eventually mercy killed by Scar to end her lifetime of pain and suffering before it even started. RIP to this little girl and her cute dog.
