5 Reasons You Should Visit Lord Howe Island

World Heritage listed, and home to hundreds of unique flora and fauna, Lord Howe Island is a great tropical retreat. Why not grab some snorkel gear and float around searching for colourful fish? With an abundance of underwater animals you are sure to spot a few different kinds of coral and sea life. Head to Ned's Beach and pick up snorkelling gear from the near the honesty box.

Climb the beautiful Mount Gower, which stands 875 metres above the water. An eight hour return trek, which is advised to be undertaken with a guide due to the difficulty of this walk. Voted one of the most outstanding hikes in Australia, enjoy the climb up and the 360 views of the island once atop the mountain.

Drop into the Pine tree Lodge for a bite to eat, or The Anchorage if you're looking for something a little more fancy. Keep in mind that food on the island is delivered fortnightly, so be aware that some options won’t be available. Food is also a bit more pricey than the mainland for obvious reasons. To avoid this price hike, pick up some food before you fly. Due to the domestic nature of the flight, bringing BBQ essentials will be a great way to cut costs. 5. Exploring

Wander around the island finding new insects and plants along the way. Or grab a paddle board and wade out to the smaller surrounding islands. With only a hundred metres of sea between you and the mainland why not?
