9 Disney Channel Original Movies That Need R-Rated Sequels

Thanks to Joe Jonas, a whole new generation of DCOM's has been inspired.

Camp Rock's biggest fans may be none other than the Camp Rockers themselves.

Joe Jonas posted an Instagram with Demi Lovato last month with the caption "CR3?" and honestly the internet still hasn't recovered.

But don't start planning your live-tweet parties just yet.

Joe was just having some fun with an old friend when he posted the pic. He confirmed to Marie Claire that a third sequel isn't officially happening (yet), but the entire cast was down for a new take on the classic Disney Channel Original Movie franchise.

"If it made sense, sure," Joe said. "For all of us — Demi, Nick, it would be funny to do a spin on it. Do the graduating days, make it kinda dark. An adult film. Well, not an adult film. An R-rated film. We've joked around about the idea a couple times."

But Joe got me thinking. R-rated DCOM's wouldn't be such a bad idea. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's been the missing piece inside of me (or, well, Disney Channel) my entire adult life.

Yes, I'm a 26-year-old who still watches DCOM's. Making them R-rated would give me a reasonable excuse to keep doing what I'm already doing.

To help Disney Channel get the ball rolling on this sure-to-be-iconic new direction for their ~brand~, I've gone ahead and picked the best DCOM's in addition to Camp Rock that need an R-rated sequel, remake or reboot.

1. Camp Rock

Everyone knows summer camp is where you learn the real ~birds and the bees~ stuff from your peers. Where was all that in the original movies?

2. Brink!

Disney Channel

"Soul skaters" takes on a whole new vibe when the bad guys do more than just throw rocks on the ground in front of a rival skater. With all the injuries, the R-rating comes from the gore alone.

It's also wildly naive to think the original Brink! characters weren't smoking pot off-camera, so more overt drug use just makes sense.

3. High School Musical

I think we're all ready for College Musical. Troy rushes a frat that makes him choose between playing basketball and performing in theater, a balancing act with which he's all too familiar. An ode to binge-drinking and beer pong becomes a real-life college party staple. I can see it now ...

4. Smart House

The A.I. breaks Isaac Asimov's "Three Laws of Robotics" in this horror thriller and just starts straight up murdering everyone inside the house.

5. Quints

Disney Channel

Instead of an only child having to deal with five new siblings, a teen gets knocked up ... with quintuplets.

Thought Teen Mom was scary? You haven't seen anything yet.

6. You Wish!

Disney Channel

When the high school loner finds a lucky coin that grants wishes, he uses it to finally lose his virginity to the girl of his dreams. The film then becomes a smart take on the concept of consent and sexual assault/rape ... albeit with a fantastical twist.

7. The Color of Friendship

The original movie was set in 1977. 40 years later, guess what? Racism still exists. Update this classic by setting it in present day with a gritty, realistic perspective.

8. Up, Up and Away

Move over Logan.

R-rated superhero movies are all the rage right now, so why can't Disney Channel get in on that too?

9. Double Teamed

The name alone. I mean, come on. This stuff just writes itself.
