This Emmy Winner Used His Speech To Talk About The Lack Of Asian-Americans In Hollywood

"We've got a long way to go, but I know we can get there," Alan Yang said after accepting the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.

Master of None creators Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang took home Emmys for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series tonight for their work on "Parents," the tear-jerking second episode of the Netflix series.

"Parents" was praised for its exploration of the immigrant experience, a narrative rarely depicted in mainstream television.

The episode resonated with many first-generation viewers, relaying the struggle to survive as newcomers to America, as told by the parents of characters Dev Shah (Ansari) and Brian Cheng (Kelvin Yu).

Before Yang left the stage, he took a moment to highlight the lack of Asian-Americans in Hollywood.

"There are 17 million Asian-Americans in this country, and there’s 17 million Italian-Americans," he said. "They have The Godfather, Goodfellas, Rocky, The Sopranos. We got Long Duk Dong."
