Alonzo Arnold is one of those rare people in the industry with an IT factor that can’t be described as anything other than, “the push through.” It’s the push through that took the artist from his restaurant job, to doing hair for some of the biggest names in music and film. But it was also his push through that brought him back and better than ever after a health scare in 2009 when he found out that he had a brain tumor. The surgery to remove it happened in 2017 and since then, the artist hasn’t stopped.

Alonzo is a walking, talking inspiration with a story that’s just as amazing as the work he consistently turns out for celebrities and clients all over the world.

He’s originally from East Atlanta, but his first salon was opened in Downtown Atlanta. He is the youngest of three.

Most known for his custom units, Alonzo says that the biggest and most important piece of advice that he would give to an aspiring hair stylist is to step out on faith. That’s what he did in 2013 and never looked back.

With a sense of gratefulness that makes being around him feel like a comfortable breeze of newness, Alonzo has created some of the biggest moments for girls who we all know and love, including: Porsha Williams, Kim Zolciak, PreMadonna, Zonnique, Remy Ma, Kehlani, Keke Palmer, and Joseline Hernandez – and they are just a few of the girls he works with.

As the creator of Hype Hair, Alonzo’s hair empire is only getting larger. Hype Hair is one of the most successful companies to emerge in years – which says a lot coming from Atlanta (the reigning Mecca of hair).

I recently had the pleasure of styling AND sitting with Alonzo to talk about everything from hair, fashion, and when I’m going to finally get this haircut.
