It is now 2017 and even though your significant other half might be dropping huge hints about how much they want to watch La La Land this Valentines Day - we are here to say NO to your typical annual trip to Cineworld.

What could be less romantic than walking through a cemetery on Valentines Day? I know , but if you do persevere to the very top of the hill you will be rewarded with a picturesque view across the city of Glasgow. It is a very beautiful spot to remove yourself from the hustle and bustle below and really appreciate Glasgow from a different point of view. Plus if one of you get scared then you have an excuse to hold hands!

Head back down towards the Tennants Factory and you will find Drygate Brewary tucked snuggly next to it. This is the only micro-brewery operating in Glasgow and has a huge selection of craft beers to choose from - including a range brewed on site. They serve food and can have live music on depending what day of the week.

2) Escape Glasgow

A wise person once said that you shouldn’t marry someone until you have spent time locked up in a room with them… I think thats what they said anyway.

Anyways - this next date will allow you to do just that . Escape Glasgow will lock you into a room for 1 hour and you and your partner have to work as a team to complete puzzles and challenges around the room in order to escape. The key idea here is communication and teamwork which - when you really think about it - is what relationships are all about isn’t it?

Normally the challenge is taken by teams of 3-5 people but there is a discounted applied for those wanting to do it as a couple which reduces the bill by £18. Otherwise if you want the ultimate alternative valentines day experience - invite another couple and have the double date you always dreamed off - locked in a room shouting at each other.

4) Super Bario

Normally we would condone any playing of games in a relationship but on this occasion we actively encourage them! Especially when the games being played are retro arcade video games in Glasgow’s newest and only Arcade Bar.

Introducing Super Bario - a superbly named kickstarter project which was funded through hundreds of donations from the people of Glasgow who really wanted a place to drink beer and play arcade games from the past. With titles such as Pac-Man , Super Smash Bros , Tekken 3 , Ridge Racer and Sega Rally on rotation and a selection of pinball machines to go crazy on , it really promises to be an exciting year for those who believed in the Super Bario project.

Everyone loves a nostalgic trip down memory lane so why not bring your date here to re-live time spent on Sega Megadrives and in Arcades playing these games. You can play as a team or even against each other if you want to find out who the real boss in the relationship is.

5) Viva Brazil

I would recommend vegetarians to look away now. Viva Brazil is an experience we encourage all carnivores to try and if you are looking for something different than your usual valentines day dinner then this could be the place for you!

On offer at Viva Brazil is an incredible 15 different types of meat and you get the chance to try them all. At the beginning of your meal you are given a card with red on one side and green on the other. So when you are ready to eat - flip your card to green and one of the waiters or waitresses will arrive with one type of meat on a skewer and they will carve you a few slices. Once they have finished they stamp the card to say you’ve had that choice so they know what you still need to try. The different cuts of meats are on rotation on the restaurant floor and they are constantly cooking the meat so that it is always fresh and there is never a long time till the next batch incase you missed out on a bit.

It is honestly one of the most unusual type of restaurant service I have ever seen and thats what makes it such a great experience.

So nibble away at everything and try to get through all 15 meats - even the chicken hearts - and you will be hugely satisfied and thats without even seeing the bill yet. Then you are in for a treat because if you go before 5pm it is £19pp and if you go after 5pm then it is £25pp which is a great deal for what you actually receive in food and service!

Oh.. they also have a salad bar but you didn't want to know that.

6) Grosvenor Cinema

If you do insist on going to the cinema this Valentines Day then you are going to want to do it in style and by style I mean booking out a sofa at the back of the cinema theatre.

Yup you read that correctly - a full sofa. The Grosvenor Cinema offers you the chance to get comfy and cosy with your other half exactly the same way as you would if you were settling down on your couch ready to begin an 8 hour Netflix binge of Stranger Things.

It is located in Glasgow’s famous Ashton Lane in the West End so go for a romantic meal and then stroll down the cute cobbled streets until you come across the tiny theatre. You can split a bottle of wine and go watch the latest movie in the comfort of a couch rather than those weird red seats with no place to put your feet up that Cineworld have just installed.

The Grosvenor’s commitment to making the cinema look homely does come at a small cost however - it has been known to get a bit chilly in there so make sure you pack a blanket incase you get cold!
