Autumn is the best season for a million reasons. But was it better as an adult or a kid? One things that's definitely better now: Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte, in stores now.

1. Kid: Dark evenings = your parents tricking you into going to bed earlier

You were at their mercy until you learnt to tell the time.

2. Kid: Playing with conkers

Until your school banned them because some kid in Year 3 lost an eye.

3. Wet playtime

When it rained you'd be corralled into classrooms and the school hall to play board games with half the bits missing and draw pictures.

There's something relaxing about sitting in the office listening to the rain beat against the window. Or using the website Rainy Mood to recreate the effect.

4. Kid: Autumn term school uniform

Which meant ditching shorts and summer dresses for thick tights and itchy jumpers - which had DEFINITELY shrunk since last year.

5. Kid: You'd look forward to wearing wellies

6. Kid: Singing Autumn-based songs in assembly

"Autumn days, when the grass is jewelled. And the silk inside a chestnut shell. Jet planes meeting in the air to be refuelled…"

Which was either brilliant - if your mum remembered / was that mum who made the giant loaf of plaited bread. Or rubbish - if your mum forgot and you had to take in some tins of pilchards and weird Asian vegetables she bought by mistake that time.

Adult: Eating delicious Autumn food

7. Kid: New school shoes

8. Kid: Walking out of your way to step on a crunchy leaf
