1. The model better known as Skullboy
Canadian tattoo enthusiast Rick “Rico” Genest famously became an inspiration for fashion designer Thierry Mugler’s collection in 2011. You probably recognize him, of course, from Lady Gaga’s Born This Way video.
2. The incredibly stylish Iris Apfel
There is nothing Iris Apfel can’t do: after a long career as a business woman and interior designer, she found herself the subject of an exhibit at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2005 highlighting her exuberant and inimitable style.
4. Willi Chevalier, World Beard and Mustache champion
With the exception of one year (2003), Willi Chevalier has taken home the top prize in the partial beard, freestyle category every year he’s competed in the World Beard and Mustache Championships.
5. The man who walks around New York with a cat on his head
As the story goes, Charlie Perito started training his cat Nicholas to stand on his head as soon as he adopted him. You can see him roaming the streets of New York City on any given day, his feline friend dutifully perched on top of his head.
6. Steve-O, the grossest stuntman of our time
Steve-O’s behavior often defies logic and one’s ability to hold down their last meal, but he deserves props for making a successful career out of idiotic behavior.
7. The queen of bling, eyewear designer Kerin Rose
Kerin Rose is the young woman Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Katy Perry turn to when they need a special pair of glitzy sunglasses to make them stand out at events, on stage, or in their videos. Since she launched her line A-Morir out of her Manhattan apartment three years ago, she has hand-embellished thousands of sunglasses and even collaborated with a major sneaker brand to design a beautifully sparkly shoe.
8. The incredible gravity and genre-defying dancer Lil’ Buck
Lil’ Buck is one of the recognizable faces of modern dance and ballet today. His performance of “The Swan” accompanied by legendary cellist Yo-Yo Ma is a must see.
9. The young man responsible for inventing the foie gras donut, chef Justin Warner
In the world of food, it pays off to stand out. Not only does Justin Warner not look anything like your typical chef, but with concoctions like the Leap Year Special (frog legs with a soda glaze) and the above-mentioned donut, the 27 year-old chef is definitely winning.
