1)The Vestibule home to the indecisive

Welcome! Your choice to enslave reason to your appetite for love earned you a spot in the 2nd circle of hell. The 2nd circle of hell is the least evil of the sins, so congrats to you? Enjoy eternity whirling about in a dark stormy wind! 
-“Love led us straight to sudden death together. Caina [a titan in the 9th circle of hell] awaits the one who quenched our lives” (Dante 112)

2)The Lustful

Welcome! Your voracious desire, aka gluttony, earned you a spot in the 3rd circle of hell. The comfort gluttony brought you in life will only bring you discomfort now. Enjoy eternity swallowing slime and ceaseless freezing rain!
-“Under the rain they howl like dogs, lying now on one side with the other as a screen, now on the other turning, these wretched sinners.” (Dante 122)

3) The Gluttonous

Welcome! Your obsession with lady fortune and all she commands (material goods you dumb-dumbs) earned you a spot in the 4th circle of hell. Enjoy eternity rolling around a giant weight, smashing said weight against neighbor’s chest, then yelling “why hoard?” or “why waste?” at them!
-“For all the gold that is or ever was beneath the moon won’t buy a moment’s rest for even one among these weary souls.” (Dante 131)

4) The Hoarders and Spendthrifts

Welcome! Your choice to harbor unresolved wrath towards the world or harbor unrelenting laziness earned you a spot in the 5th circle of hell. Enjoy eternity basking in a pitchy boiling swamp, while tearing other souls and being torn apart by other souls, or simply suffocating in the mucky swamp- your choice!
-“Sluggish we were in the sweet air made happy by the sun, and the smoke of sloth was smoldering in our hearts; now we lie sluggish here in this lack muck!” (Dante 133)

5)The Wrathful and Slothful

Welcome! Your choice to use the gift of intellect god bestowed upon you to disown and blasphemy him, earned you a hotly contended spot in the 6th circle of hell. Enjoy eternity entombed in a searing tomb filled with your fellow heretics; it’s going to get crowded in there real fast, so enjoy!
-“The sin of heresy is ore serious than those caused by weakness of the flesh but somehow less serious than wiled, premeditated sins of violence and fraud; it is a sin of the intellect and a state of being, not a source of sinful action (fraud, violence). Therefore it is between incontinence [circles 2-5] and violence [circle 7].” (Musa 157)

6)The Heretics

Welcome! Your infliction of violence upon others; or infliction of violence against self; or infliction of violence against god, art, or nature earned you a spot in the 7th circle of hell. Enjoy eternity by centaurs shooting arrows to keep your soul properly submerged in a river of boiling blood; or by disowning one’s human form in exchange for the form of a thorny plant; or by wandering burning sands while flames rain down upon your hide! 
-“Oh blind cupidity and insane wrath, spurring us on through our short life on earth to steep us then forever in such misery!” (Dante 178)

7)The Violent

Welcome! Your choice to partake in the perversion of good will and intellect by being a: seducer or panderer, flatterer, simoniac, sorcerer, barrator, hypocrite, thief, deceiver, sower of discord, or falsifier earned you a spot in the 8th circle of hell. Enjoy eternity by marching in a circle and being whipped; by drowning in feces; by remaining upside-down, while flames dance across your soles; by meandering with your head turned backwards; by boiling in tar while demons plague you; by large gilded lead vests crushing you; by transforming into and out of beasts, while being attacked by serpents; by existing within a continual flame; by demons continually ripping you apart then reassembling you; or by being constantly plagued by disease! 
-“Dante would be telling us that fraud in general is a disease: the corrupt sense of values of the fraudulent is here symbolized, in the case of the falsifiers, by the corrupt state of their minds and bodies.” (Musa 351)

8)The Fraudulent

Congratulations! Your ultimate perversion of good will, intellect, and physical strength by turning this god given gifts against god in all aspects, earned you a place in the 9th circle of hell. The 9th circle of hell houses the worst sinners of all and is the lowest level of hell. Enjoy eternity frozen solid at absolute zero in a lake centered about Satan himself! -“For when the faculty of intellect is joined with brute force and with evil will, no man can win against such an alliance.” (Dante 355)
