This Groundbreaking New Ad Normalises Trans Motherhood And Will Make You Weep

"I'm not going to be a doctor. I'll be a lawyer. For my mom."

Vicks’s latest ad opens with a young girl, Gayatri, who is on her way to boarding school as she recounts how she met her adoptive mother.

At the age of six, Gayatri's mother, who was a sex worker, died of HIV-AIDS.

That was when she was adopted by Gauri Sawant, who took wonderful care of her new daughter by tending to her when sick and bonding over horror movies

As she recalls the time they spent together, it is revealed that her mother is actually a transgender woman.

However, for fear of other children making fun of her daughter, Sawant sent her away to boarding school, hoping that her daughter will someday become a doctor.

The ad ends with Gayatri wondering if there is a world where her mother will be entitled to basic freedoms and rights, and strives to make the world a better place for her.
