India's First Plus-Size Transgender Model Wants Trans People To Speak To Their Families More

"When you keep trying for our future, even trying with your family, to be close with them... I think it might change their perspective about you."

This is Mona Varonica Campbell. She became the first transgender plus-size model to walk the ramp for Lakmé Fashion Week this year.

Born as a man in Andhra Pradesh, she knew early on that she wanted to be a part of the fashion industry.

She graduated from NIFT, has a PhD to her name, AND her own makeup label as well.

She initially faced some opposition from her father...

But, even medical professionals confirmed what she had always known.

She encourages trans people to speak up more about their experiences with their loved ones.

She told them to be unafraid of being who they are.

And told society to not function with hate, but love instead.
