Earlier today at around 10:45 am, there was a stampede at a foot-over bridge connecting Mumbai's Elphinstone Road and Parel stations.
At least 22 people have been declared dead and 27 more injured. The injured were taken to KEM Hospital near the site of the incident.
The foot-over bridge in question is known to be crowded during peak hours (between 9am and 11am), with locals saying the stampede was a disaster waiting to happen.
The stampede allegedly occured because of a delay that caused four trains to arrive simultaneously at Elphinstone Road and Parel stations.
Railway minister Piyush Goyal is visiting the city today and might pay a visit to the site of the incident.
President Ram Nath Kovind and PM Narendra Modi have also sent condolences.
PM Modi also tweeted stating Goyal will be looking into the incident closely.
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis tweeted his reaction to the incident as well.
He has also announced that the deceased's families will be compensated and the medical expenses of those injured will be borne by the state government.
