We Asked UKIP Members To Say When Britain Was Last Truly Great

UKIP's conference in Doncaster was their largest ever by attendance. BuzzFeed News spoke to some of those who turned up.

Over the weekend UKIP held its largest ever party conference in Doncaster.

So BuzzFeed News decided to speak to some of those who turned up and ask them when they think Britain was last at its peak. Here's what they said.

This is 76-year-old Harvey Alexander. He's a fan of 1895.

Harry used to vote Conservative but switched four years ago.

And this is Joshua Jones, who's UKIP's East Midlands Youth Chair. He thinks Britain was last truly great in 1986.

Joshua is 17 and he'll get to vote for the first time in next year's election. told BuzzFeed News that, although he's privately-educated, "it's important that intelligent, poor kids get opportunities." He added that he didn't think UKIP would exist if David Davis had been elected Conservative leader instead of David Cameron.

And this is 66-year-old lorry driver David King. He liked Britain in 1967.

He's a former Conservative Party voter.

This guy? He's the chairperson of UKIP Glasgow and thinks Britain was at its best in 1996.

UKIP's big thing, according to him? "We want to see less money wasted."

Paul Stone is a councillor in Chesterfield, having defected from the Lib Dems. He's all about 1895.
