Here Are 10 Punjabi Pop Artists You Should Be Listening To

If you like music, there's a Punjabi song for you. (This is for the editorial fellowship)

For much of my life, I wasn't in touch with my Punjabi roots. Avril Lavigne's "Sk8er Boi" was my anthem until I stumbled upon Punjabi Pop.

Punjabi pop is the bridge between "California Girls" and traditional folk music. With pop and R&B beats (and the occasional rap) Punjabi music has quickly dominated my Spotify Wrapped. And I think it could end up on your's too.

If you like Justin Bieber, try Mickey Singh

His buttery voice and oversized clothes basically make Mickey Singh the Brown version of Bieber. Check out his sweet vocals and slick moves in "Phone," one of his biggest hits.

California native Fateh opened the doors for a lot of rappers in the Punjabi music industry. His raps about heartbreak, new love and achieving his dreams often have a sing-songy vibe similar to Drake's. Listen to him in "15 Minutes."

If you like Bruno Mars, try The PropheC

If you're all in your feels, put PropheC on repeat. With countless songs about heartbreak, his music is sure to help you get over your ex. Go be sad with him in "Questions."

If aggressive rap is your thing, Sidhu Moosewala is your guy. In many cases, Sidhu's songs are responses to other artists he has beef with. And in all his songs, the message is the same: he's the best. In "Legend," Sidhu talks about how his enemies are secretly his fans.

Jasmine Sandlas holds her own in this male dominated industry. Often blending traditional Punjabi folk music with edgy outfits and lyrics, Jasmine's confidence is unmistakable. Her larger than life personality and powerful vocals make it easy to forget about the other two dancing with her in "Illegal Weapon."

If you like Khalid, try AP Dhillon

AP Dhillon has a more retro vibe. His songs incorporate heavy percussion and synthesizers—a lot like Khalid's "Talk" or "Saturday Nights." If Punjabi pop existed in the U.S. in the '80s, it probably would have sounded something like "Excuses," my personal favorite AP Dhillon song.

If you like Ed Sheeran, try Akhil

In true Ed Sheeran fashion, Akhil's songs are extremely romantic. In "Khaab," Akhil sings about his dream girl while strumming his guitar in a cafe. It'll make you miss your boo, even if you don't have one.

Diljit Dosanjh is probably the most iconic Punjabi singer ever. And while he can pretty much get away with doing any type of song, my favorite is "Jind Mahi," which has a really "DJ Got Me Falling in Love" sound.

If you like Calvin Harris, try Raaginder

If Calvin Harris and Indian classical music had a baby, it would sound like Raaginder. Combining electronic beats, the violin and traditional Indian instruments like the tabla, Raaginder creates instrumental music that you can sing along to. In "Ghar Aaja," Surtaal Singh lays vocals over Raaginder's catchy composition.

If you like Blake Shelton, try G. Sidhu

Though G. Sidhu doesn't have a Southern accent, his more traditional folk Punjabi range is similar to Shelton's deep tone. Think of it as country music that you can dance bhangra to. G. Sidhu's "Hip Hop" is a Punjabi party essential.
