Straight Ally In Provo, Utah Helps Gay Men With "Missed Connection" At The Ballet

Jerilyn Hassel Pool, an incredible LGBTQ ally and advocate, was able through the power of social media to help one of her gay friends find the guy he nervously rejected at the ballet in Salt Lake City. It took less than a day.

Ok. So. I don't profess to be a BuzzFeed expert. In fact, this is my first story to post to the community. But this story is amazing. And I was compelled to share it.

It started with her initial post, where she posted a graphic design of two men and a message: "On Sunday night, my beloved Christian Jacob Frandsen went to Ballet West in Salt Lake City and had a lovely chat with a man, but then got nervous and brushed him off. Help me find the man on the left."

Within minutes of her post, her queer friends and allies were posting, sharing, smiling, and generally wishing her well. I even posted a GIF of RuPaul's Drag Race because I was genuinely interested to see if things would work out. Would the shy guy get a second chance? Would the potential new beau rebuff the attention?

As it is the internet, some people saw the post and made some... assumptions.

But eventually, through the power of social media, the mystery man was located, and responded gracefully.

So while the future can never be truly predicted, the two men have been reconnected, all thanks to an incredible ally who harnessed her incredible social network to give these guys a second chance to get to know each other.

So there it is. Proof that allies are incredible, that they go the extra mile, and that the world is not as crazy and terrible that the headlines might argue otherwise.
