The sad truth is that not everyone is going to see eye-to-eye with their parents. And, sometimes, we're forced to come to terms with the fact that what they taught us — or how they raised us — was actually incredibly toxic. What's something you (either recently or over time) have had to "unlearn" from your parents?
Maybe your parents used spanking as their main form of discipline, and you now realize that this method is super harmful and never okay under any circumstances.
Perhaps you grew up in a very misogynistic household where women were expected to do all the housework, and once you entered adulthood you were like, "Hey, that's actually pretty fucked up."
Or maybe you carry a lot of internalized guilt because your parents liked to project their issues and insecurities onto you when you were a child, and you're still working on accepting that none of it was ever your fault.
Whatever it is, share it in the comments below — or use this form if you'd rather remain anonymous. Tell us what toxic things you either learned or dealt with at the hands of your parents, and how you came to unlearn them. We may feature your response in an upcoming BuzzFeed Community post.
