"Toilet Roll Only Supplied On First Day”: 16 Vacation Rentals That Probably Had People Wishing They'd Just Gotten A Hotel

If I'm paying a $250 cleaning fee, I'm not stripping the bed. Sorry.

IDK about you, but back in the day, I LOVED booking on vacation rental sites. It felt like such a great value and much more personal than a hotel.

But lately, I've been feeling a little differently. And after looking at these 16 photos, I think I'm good on booking any kind of vacation rental in the near future. LMK if you feel the same:

    1. This Airbnb host who tried to charge their guests for touching the thermostat.

A conversation that shows an Airbnb host tried to charge $150 for touching the thermostat, which the person rejected and said they were never told the thermostat was off limits

    2. This vacation rental "bathroom" located ON THE STAIRS.

A landing in the middle of a stairwell has a toilet and sink installed

    3. This vacation rental that the host so graciously "upgraded" their guest to after canceling their original reservation.

The house is tiny and run down

    4. This hot tub that I'm convinced hasn't been cleaned by the host once.

The cover of the hot tub is pulled back to reveal the bottom of the cover and the inside of the water are covered with dirt

    5. This "notice" to guests that makes me wonder why the hosts even rented out their home in the first place.

    6. This "piss yellow" water that a host refused to take care of.

An ankle deep layer of yellow stagnant water is sitting in the bathtub

    7. This entrance with the instructions, "The key safe is near the white door…it is silver with black plastic." 🥲

There are approximately 15 key safes installed on the wall that look exactly the same and all match the description provided

    8. These "kitchen rules" that basically say, "Please pretend like you don't exist."

The rules include only allowing one dish and one glass per meal, no food in the fridge for longer than 16 hours, and no using the dishwasher during the afternoon or night

    9. This note from a rental host who expected guests to tip after charging them a $250 cleaning fee.

    10. This rental that conveniently has the toilet and sink so close, guests can poop and wash their hands at the same time.

A photo taken from the perspective of someone sitting on the toilet. They can easily place their hands in the sink from where they're seated.

    11. This cleaning charge that's more than the actual fee for a one-night stay.

The fee for a one-night stay is $115, and the cleaning fee is $175.

    12. These yellow sheets that I'd be scared to inquire about. 🤢

There are huge, gross-looking stains covering nearly half the bed

    13. This pool that might as well be a swamp.

The pool is a disgusting green color because of algae that's so thick you can't even see the bottom of the pool

    14. This note from a host that forbids guests from having sex under their roof(!!!).

    15. This rental that was supposed to be a "cozy flat" (I'll bet they still charged a cleaning fee).

The place is a mess, with random papers scattered on the floor and boxes and binders stacked up in several places

    16. And finally, this knife found at a vacation rental that looks like it was used to murder someone.

A very serrated knife that's covered in dirt, as if it was buried outside
