Prostate cancer seems to be one of those cancers that flies under the radar. One minute you are fine and the next minute you have prostate cancer. It is difficult to discover early, but if you do then consider yourself lucky. This is one of those cancer's that needs to be watched closely. Here are some reasons as to why and how.
1. Prostate health supplements. These are perfect if you have an enlarged prostate. Having an enlarged prostate can cause to a lot of discomfort and show signs of prostate cancer. This can be frequent urination, blood in your urine, urinating frequently at night, blood in the seminal fluid and discomfort when sitting because of your enlarged prostate. These supplements are best used if you do not have cancer, but even if you do, the supplement will help improve your prostate health. Also, some believe that there is no reason to take these supplements after the age of 50 because they simply will not work. Always check with your doctor prior to starting a new supplement.
2. Ignoring the symptoms. This is something I am very guilty of. I am one of those people who think they are never sick. Oh, I ate too much and that is why my stomach hurts. I just have a runny nose, it must be allergies. Oh, I just twisted my ankle I am sure that it is not broken. Some of us are like this because we hate hearing bad news. The problem with this disease that we have is that if something is really wrong, we need to be brave and say something to our doctor. If you notice the signs of prostate cancer, you need to tell your doctors because it can save your life. You want to catch it early rather than wait because the longer you wait the more it can spread. Catch it early, and you can get rid of it early.
3. Fatigue. This symptom seems perfectly normal and it could mean anything. If you are of a certain age and have always lived an active lifestyle, then this is a big warning sign for you. I have seen commercials where men are running marathons and then all of a sudden they say they are tired. Now I am not saying you have to be one of those men that can run a marathon and then become tired, but I am saying that if you used to do a lot of things and then all of a sudden stopped, then you should think twice and contact your doctor. It may not even be prostate cancer, it could be something else. Better to be safe than sorry.
4. Discomfort when sitting. I have known older men to have had their prostate screenings every so many years and the tests come back with something odd on it. You later ask them if they have discomfort when sitting. Some will say, well only in the car, and others will state that they have it with certain chairs or pieces of furniture. This can be hemorrhoids, or it could be prostate cancer. Either way, it is not good or normal. Have that checked out right away because you should not be feeling any sort of discomfort in that area. Tell your doctor and do not wait for your prostate exam.
5. Blood in the seminal fluid. If you ignore this symptom it had better be for good reason. You should never have blood in your seminal fluid unless you are menstruating. Even then you should see a difference in the amount of blood and clots. Prostate cancer seems to be a cancer that is a majority in men, so men should never see blood in their seminal fluid. Call your doctor and make an appointment right away. Be sure to let them know about the blood first so they can fit you in right away. The longer you delay, the worse you can make it.
6. Frequent urination. Are you getting up in the middle of the night quite frequently? More than you have in the past? This is a warning sign that often goes undetected. I am not talking once at night, I am talking three, four or five times a night. This is not good for you and not good for your partner either. Waking up frequently does not help you sleep well at night, so that should be your first warning sign to want a better sleep. You hear about how when men get older they urinate more frequently, but you should know when it is too much. You know your body better than anyone else, so be sure to listen to it. You are your best doctor.
