3. Get A Piano
A mansion on Sunset Boulevard isn’t complete without a beautiful piano, but not everyone has enough money or space for one in the living room. However, you can still get experience the instrument’s glamor by buying a broken one and using the body as a bookshelf.
5. Trade In Your Old Doorknobs For Some Older Ones
Most of us don’t spend too much time thinking about doorknobs, but they actually play a crucial part in the style of a home. So to add some aristocracy to your own place, consider swapping out your old doorknobs with some even older (but more regal) ones.
6. Make Your Own Headboard
Sure, a bed has to be comfortable, but it also has to look good (as in, other people should want to get in it with you). Headboards give a bedroom a sophisticated feel, and since they can be built in about a week, it’s about time your sleeping quarters entered adulthood.
7. Assemble Your Own Water Fountain
If you’re wealthy, one of the only reasons to have a garden is so you can put an extraordinary water fountain in the center of it. But since most people don’t have the funds to commission a life-size sculpture of a Greek god, another way to bring peace to your life is to make your own fountain by using garden accessories you already have.
8. Put A “Wine Cellar” In Your Kitchen
One of the best parts of a decadent mansion is the wine cellar, but those cost thousands upon thousands of dollars to build and stock. But luckily for all of us, it doesn’t cost very much to install a mini one under an unused kitchen cabinet.
9. Invest In A “Rainfall Shower Head”
Bathrooms in California are usually pretty spectacular because they’re either made out of marble or have huge bank vault-sized showers. But since it’s probably not worth having your entire bathroom remodeled, an easy way to make your bathroom more elegant is to swap out your old shower head for one that is designed to mimic the way rain falls.
10. Stock Up On Costume Jewelry
The ladies of Sunset Boulevard are known for spending a fortune on their stunningly large jewelry. But we bet that if you check out your local vintage jewelry shop, you’ll find some costume pieces that will stand out just as much.
11. Paint Old Frames Gold
Most Beverly Hills mansions have at least one huge oil painting hanging in them. And not surprisingly, the frames and the art are both quite pricey. But you can instantly make a space more luxurious feeling if you take some old picture frames, paint them gold, and then mount them somewhat randomly.
12. Upgrade Your Living Room With A Chandelier
An exquisite chandelier is considered a must-have in California dining rooms, and it’s not hard to understand why. But contrary to popular belief, beautiful light fixtures don’t have to cost an arm and a leg. A simple way to romanticize your eating space is to buy the chandelier skeleton vintage, and then decorate it with ornaments as you see fit.
13. Spoil Your Pet
Pets are a status symbol these days, and the folks of Sunset Boulevard are known to go above and beyond to pamper their furry friends. And since you probably think the world of your own cat or dog, it’s about time you considered how your image would benefit from splurging on accessories for them.
14. Paint A Mural
Lots of homeowners in Beverly Hills commission artists to paint ornate murals in their homes (like on their staircases or around their indoor pools). But if you’re particularly artistic, don’t be afraid to pick a wall and go nuts.
15. Take Your Home Theater Up A Notch
Most A-listers have their own private movie theaters built in to their homes. But if you’re just as big a movie buff as any actor in Hollywood, a good way to take your home entertainment center to the next level is to get yourself a projector and screen movies on an empty wall (or on a screen in your backyard, as seen above).
