How To Succeed At A Career Fair

Career fairs are stressful. Here are eight tips to help ease the stress.

1. Research the companies at the fair before going

That way you know who you want to talk to and when they will be there.

2. Develop a strong resume

A good rule of thumb is to bring at least ten resumes. Your goal is to hand out as many as possible.

3. Prepare your elevator pitch

1. Who are you?

2. What skills/experience do you possess?

3. What job are you looking for?

4. End with a question

4. Go to the career fair!

5. Make a plan

Upon entering the career fair, get your bearings and locate a map with all the company locations on it.

6. Smile and be polite

Make a good first impression and be genuinely interested in the company and the recruiter. Remember to shake their hand and look them in the eye.

7. Talk to employers who don't have a line

You never know who you may be interested in or who may be interested in you.

8. After the career fair, send a thank you email to everyone you talked to

You can do this as soon as you get home if you want. Most companies will make their decision that night, so send your email as soon as you can.
