8 DIY Ornaments You'll Actually Wanna Keep For Years

Add a personal touch to your tree by decorating with ornaments that are not only beautiful but easy to make. With creativity and Scotch® Brand Tapes, holiday magic is at your fingertips.

1. 3D Paper Ball Ornaments

You’ll need:

A circle paper punch (or you can cut out the circles by hand)

Scrapbooking paper, in six different patterns or colors

Scotch® Double Sided Tape

Scissors

String

Instructions:

1. Cut a bunch of circles from the paper.

2. Fold each circle in half with the color side facing inward.

3. Use Scotch® Double Sided Tape to attach two flaps of the balls together. The two circles should form a “T” shape when laid flat.

4. Repeat with four more circles. Attach the three “T's” to form a 3D ball, with a loop of string in the center.

2. Holiday-Themed Paper Ornaments

You’ll need:

Card stock

Scotch® Expressions Tape

A pen

Holiday cookie cutters

Scissors

Scotch® Magic™ Tape

String

Instructions:

1. Cover a portion of the card stock with Scotch® Expressions Tape.

2. Trace a cookie cutter over the tape. Cut these out, making sure to cut inside your pen marks.

3. Flip the letters over, and use Scotch® Magic™ Tape to secure a loop of string along the to hang.

3. Silver-and-Gold Glass Ornaments

You’ll need:

Clear glass bulb ornaments

Tinsel, glitter, fake snow, evergreen branches, or anything else you want to stuff your ornaments with

Scotch® Expressions Tape, in solid silver, solid gold, glittery gold, and glittery silver

Instructions:

1. Remove the top from your ornament. Fill your ornaments with whatever materials you’ve chosen.

2. Then use your Scotch® Expressions Tape to decorate the ornaments however you’d like.

3. Pop the top back on and hang.

4. Metallic Colorblock Ornaments

You’ll need:

Unfinished wooden holiday ornaments — or wooden balls in a variety of sizes and eye hook screws

Scotch® Magic™ Tape

Paints (we used bright colors, but you could try it with metallics, traditional holiday colors, or any colors you love)

Twine


Instructions:

1. If you’re using wooden balls and eye hooks instead of premade ornaments, screw those in now.

2. Using your Scotch® Magic™ Tape, tape off sections of the ornament and begin painting. (Hint: If you’re making a bunch, it’s easiest to tape all the ornaments first, then paint all of the first color, and so on.)

3. Leave the ornaments to dry, peel off the tape, and repeat with the next color, and so on.

4. Loop the twine through the eye hook to hang your ornaments.

5. Glitter Star Ornaments

You’ll need:

A paper towel or toilet paper roll

Glitter Scotch® Expressions Tape

Scissors

A glue gun

Twine

Instructions:

1. Slice your paper roll into five strips .59 inches wide, the same width as your tape.

2. Fold each slice in half to create a crease. Open them back up, and you’ll have football-shaped cardboard pieces.

3. Use your glitter Scotch® Expressions Tape to cover the inside and outside of the pieces.

4. Glue the slices into a star shape. Use another dab of glue to attach a loop of twine to hang the twine.

6. Washi Tape Photo Frame Ornaments

You’ll need:

Card stock

Scotch® Expressions Tape

Scalloped paper punch (or a roundish cookie cutter larger than

Scotch® Double Sided Tape

A hole punch

Scissors

Twine

Instructions:

1. Cover a portion of the card stock with Scotch® Expressions Tape.

2. Using your big scalloped paper punch, punch out two circles of the tape-covered card stock. (Or, if you’re using a cookie cutter, trace the cookie cutter and cut out two shapes.)

3. Use the regular circle punch to cut out a circle from one of the two scalloped shapes. Then use the punch on a favorite photo to cut out a circle.

3. Assemble your ornament with Scotch® Double Sided Tape. To do this, tape the scalloped shapes together. Then tape the photo into the hole you punched out of one of the scalloped shapes.

4. Punch out a hole at the top of the ornament. Loop a piece of twine through the hole to hang the ornament.

7. Cookie Cutter Photo Ornaments

You’ll need:

Pen

Holiday-themed cookie cutters

Your favorite photos

Scissors

Scotch® Expressions Tape

A glue gun

Ribbon

Instructions:

1. Trace a cookie cutter over the photo. Cut the photo out, making sure to cut just outside your pen marks.

2. Then decorate the cookie cutters with Scotch® Expressions Tape around the outside or inside (or both!).

3. Using your glue gun, put glue all around the thicker edge of the ornament. Carefully line up your photo to the top of the glued ornament and press it down. Flip the ornament, and you’ll see your framed image.

8. Washi Tape Ball Ornament

You’ll need:

12 10-inch strips of Scotch® Expressions Tape

1 6-inch piece of wire

Two wood beads

Twine or string

Instructions:

1. Start by sticking 2 pieces of Scotch® Expressions Tape together back-to-back. Continue with the rest of the tape until you have 6 strips.

2. Twist one end of the wire to make a loop, and then thread one of the beads on.

3. Make small holes at the middle and both ends of each strip of tape. Thread all strips of tape through the middle hole onto the wire on top of the bead. Then fan out all your strips evenly.

4. Take both ends of the strip of paper that is at the bottom of the stack and thread both through the wire using the holes you made in step 3, making a loop. Repeat until you’ve threaded all the strips through the wire and you have a ball.

8. Top off the ball with the other bead and create another small loop with the wire. Use this loop to attach the string you’ll hang your ornament from.
